D.Fisher LLC is a Westwood-based general contracting firm run by Derek Fisher, working across the Boston area on full gut renovations rather than small fixes — an electrical subcontractor with 30 years in the trade wrote in 2015 that Derek was “the only one in business” he’d give his highest recommendation to, after working with him on dozens of projects, from residential bath remodels to large commercial office renovations. The written record — nine reviews spanning 2015 to 2018, on Houzz and BuildZoom — describes a company built for structural, down-to-the-studs work. In 2015, one homeowner had their kitchen gutted and reconfigured within an unchanged budget, with Fisher finding room for a larger layout the client hadn’t seen themselves; another had a bathroom taken to the studs and rebuilt in three weeks, and still admired it five years later. A repeat customer who’d hired Derek “for many repairs” over several years eventually had him gut and remodel a kitchen, including a new support beam and expanded windows, also in 2015. A 2017 review of a drywall job called the crew easy to work with and the site clean, and by 2018 a basement water-mitigation and repair job was still earning the same description: upfront, consistent, communicative every step. Both directories that list D.Fisher LLC put it at a perfect 5.0 — BuildZoom from 8 reviews (a score in the top 1% of the Massachusetts contractors it tracks) and Houzz from 7 — and both list a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration, #167972, for the company; Houzz also credits it with a 2016 Best of Houzz award and describes it as licensed, insured and bonded. What's worth asking about: every review on file predates 2019, so there's nothing more recent to point to — worth confirming who's on the crew now and asking to see photos of recent work before booking. And while BuildZoom and Houzz both list the same license number, a directory listing it isn't itself a verification, so it's worth checking the number's current status directly. For a homeowner planning a full renovation rather than a quick repair — a kitchen or bathroom down to the studs, a basement rebuild, a commercial buildout — this is the kind of shop the file's reviewers, including a fellow contractor who did repeat business with them, describe hiring again. Confirm current licensing and ask to see recent work before signing on.

We hired D. Fisher LLC for some much needed work in our basement. He was always up front, consistent, and has great quality of workmanship. He kept us in the loop step by step and was honest with the steps we needed to take for water mitigation and repair. He went above and beyond and made sure everything was done to his perfection - which far supasses ours. We look forward to working with him in the future.
Easy to work with. Clean job site. Happy with the final product.
D. Fisher LLC did a masterful gut renovation of our kitchen. Derek Fisher imaginatively and cost-effectively enlarged the footprint of a typical square, small room and expanded its possibilities hugely. The kitchen is in a two-family home and had been rented for many years. It was in horrendous condition. But during our first meeting FIsher saw additional potential where we didn’t at all—we left that meeting with an entirely new scope for the project but no change in our intended budget. He stayed completely within that budget, and went the extra mile to suggest fantastic cost-saving options/sources (on cabinets, granite countertops, a floor-model range, for example) that allowed us to maximize every aspect of the project. To save money we kept an existing window that we had thought must go when Fisher found a way to make it work and gave it new life/looks with minor rebuilding. That allowed us to make the lighting more elaborate—just one example of his efforts to realize his client’s "wishlist" as fully as possible. Our home is circa 1895/1900 and we wanted a very different, contrasting style of kitchen: a streamlined, modern "laboratory" for cooking that is also welcoming. Fisher was a true collaborator who immediately understood our vision. We started out with just two choices made: to have a red linoleum floor and to include an antique library table of sentimental value. From these Fisher spun off the perfect layout and every choice we made from there on fit perfectly—clear subway tiles, hanging industrial pendant, flat-front natural cabinets, stainless/black appliances, etc. He even suggested one small wall be painted to serve as a blackboard, adding to the "working" nature of the room. He also brought our new kitchen up to city code in every aspect—the city inspector had the highest praise for Fisher’s work. Fisher’s team was top-notch, friendly, and respectful, including the electrician and plumber he recommended. We had complete confidence in everyone working in our home. The carpentry, flooring, tile installation—every process was done to highest standards. We got much more value for our money than we have seen in any comparable project among our friends and family. We’ve now been using our new kitchen for more than a year, and we love it. It functions perfectly in every way, it has become a focal point of our home as the nicest kitchens do.
I hired d.fisher to construct wooden stairs on my porch. The stairs were completed in a timely manner and at a very reasonable price, exactly as quoted. Furthermore, they aren't just sturdy and high-quality (for a high-traffic area) but they look great--better than I envisioned. I'd hired d.fisher again without hesitation.
DFisherLLC took our bathroom down to the studs and brought it back to full use in 3 weeks. Tell him what you want, and then get out of his way because he knows what he's doing and has an excellent eye. He did what he said he would do when he said he would do it. Five years later we still admire our bathroom -this kind of work and experience you don't take for granted. He also did some very smart concrete work for us - a separate story.
