D. Reed Electric is a Hingham-based master electrician contractor that's built an unusually deep, unusually consistent reputation across the South Shore — Hingham, Cohasset, Weymouth, Norwell, Scituate, Duxbury, Quincy, Hanover, Marshfield, Braintree, Hull, and Milton. Run by Dan Reed, a licensed master electrician and NECA member affiliated with IBEW Local 103, the company handles everything from routine repairs to full rewiring, EV charger installs — Dan is a certified ChargePoint Installation Partner and EVITP-trained — and panel upgrades.
What stands out across dozens of reviews from 2022 through 2026 is how rarely the story changes: Dan responds fast, often within minutes or hours and sometimes same-day for a burning-smell outlet or a last-minute request, shows up on time, explains the work clearly, and quotes a price that matches the final invoice. One customer who'd been ghosted by another electrician said Dan replied within ten minutes; another who reached out to five electricians said Dan was the only one who wrote back.
The written work spans real range. A 2023 review describes removing extensive knob-and-tube wiring and installing recessed lighting in an antique home, walking the owners through a project they had 'absolutely no clue' how to approach. Other reviews describe full electrical service upgrades, ceiling-fan and outlet replacements, a large custom chandelier installation, and repeated EV charger installs. On the commercial side, a general contractor working across greater Boston describes hiring Dan for a handful of projects and calls his trade work meticulous, and Duxbury Bay Maritime School credits him with adding outlets, swapping outdated CFL recessed lighting for LEDs, new parking-lot and spot lighting, and a backup battery transfer panel.
Multiple reviewers specifically praise his estimates holding up — pricing quoted upfront that matches what's actually billed — and several describe using him repeatedly across different homes and projects over multiple years, one calling herself 'a customer for life.'
There isn't much of a downside to flag: across years of specific, detailed reviews, none describes a real complaint, and the volume and consistency here is unusual for an electrician this size.
For anything from a burning outlet that needs same-day attention to a full rewire on an older home or an EV charger install, D. Reed Electric's South Shore customers describe a responsive, meticulous, fairly priced electrician who does what he says he'll do.
