David Heating & Cooling has been running out of Merrimac for decades — the BBB lists it as A+ accredited since 2005, and the company itself dates back to 1987, now with about 10 employees under owner Stephen T. Allison. It's built around HVAC: heating, cooling, boilers, heat pumps and water heaters, with plumbing and gas work as well, covering Merrimac and neighboring towns along the Massachusetts–New Hampshire line. The clearest pattern in its reviews is repeat, multi-year trust rather than one-off jobs. One customer has called them back across three different homes over 25 years, using them to swap out old boiler and HVAC systems each time and describing the pricing as competitive — sometimes thousands less than alternatives. Another recent review credits a routine maintenance visit with catching a failing expansion tank before it burst. A third reviewer, a new homeowner, said the crew found and fixed issues during a maintenance check and returned the next day once a part came in. Worth checking before booking: the state registry lists its Massachusetts HVAC license as expired. BuildZoom's own profile is inconsistent on licensing too — it shows two Massachusetts licenses (sheet metal and plumbing) as active while the same page also flags no active license on file, so current status is worth confirming directly. Review volume elsewhere is thin — no reviews yet on Angi or BuildZoom — so this read leans on a small number of long-time customers rather than a broad sample. For anyone nearby with an aging boiler or heating system, or who wants a shop that sticks around for decades of maintenance rather than a single visit, this is the kind of contractor people keep calling back — just confirm current licensing before signing anything.
David Heating & Cooling was great! As a new homeowner they were very helpful and answered all of our questions. During our maintenance check they found a few issues with the system and were able to fix them on site! One piece they needed to order and came back the next day to repair. Very pleased and will always be using in the future!
Worked with David Heating & Cooling this past year after forgetting to get annual service work done on my boiler the past 2 years. They came out and took care of business at an extremely reasonable price and also caught a leak in my Expansion Tank that was on the verge on bursting and costing me significant dollars. Everyone I dealt with was extremely helpful at the front desk to the technician that came out. Highly recommend
David’s heating and cooling is the BEST! I have been a customer for 25 years. I have lived in 3 locations and they are the only ones I trust to address heating and cooling issues. In each location they have been polite, willing to answer questions, and they left my home even cleaner than it was!!!! They have installed a boiler heating system, and 2 heating & cooling systems for me. In all 3 cases they replaced very old systems. Many of my neighbors have used them as well. There have been no complaints. And their prices were competitive, often thousands of dollars less! The estimate included great name brands. They also will maintain your systems with yearly maintenance checks.
