A homeowner called Modern Temperature Control in April 2026 for a second opinion after another company quoted $5,000 to fix a refrigerant leak. Tim came out, inspected the heat pump, and said there was no leak — then walked through how the system works and why the other diagnosis did not hold. That shape repeats across the reviews of this Merrimac shop: the cheaper answer, explained. It is a small operation and the owner is the business. Reviewers call him Tim or Timmy, and the detail they keep returning to is that he answers the phone himself — at 4:50 on a Saturday afternoon, according to a June 2023 review, and on the first warm Sunday of May 2026, when a customer with a dead central AC had him at the house within two hours. Speed is the through-line. A furnace out in February 2026: arrival inside an hour. A faulty thermostat in December 2025: same. A mini split for someone's elderly mother squeezed in just ahead of the July 2026 heat wave. A blower motor that failed on a 19-degree January 2025 morning — pulled it, drove for a replacement, came back, done. The work runs past houses. A restaurant owner wrote in June 2026 about three chiller AC systems and more than a month spent looking for anyone who understood them. Another reviewer, in November 2025, uses the company both for their own house and for restaurant refrigeration clients. Mini split installs, heat pump conversions, boiler and furnace repair, annual maintenance: 111 Google ratings averaging 4.9, and 87 written reviews across three sources going back to 2021. Two dissents sit in that history and both are about money and diagnosis rather than responsiveness. In November 2025 a customer posted a point-by-point rebuttal to the company's public reply, saying the unit had in fact been installed correctly, that it did not need new line sets, and that the problem was eventually resolved by a different HVAC company. In May 2022 another wrote that more than two weeks after paying on the 19th, no refund had arrived for a job where no work was performed. Call them for a no-heat or no-cooling emergency, a mini split, or a commercial refrigeration problem nobody else will take. If a diagnosis calls for replacing line sets or other work you cannot see, ask for the reasoning in writing — the same second opinion Tim has given other callers — and if you cancel before work starts, settle the refund timeline up front.

Timmy and the MTC crew have been taking care of my HVAC needs for years. They've helped maintain my old A/C system, installed a mini-split in my ADU, and recently replaced my furnace and central A/C with a new heat pump system. They are always honest, dependable, and never push unnecessary services or products. They are always great to work with!

If you need a HVAC service, look no further. My AC was not performing well and I called and was surprised that the owner actually answered the phone and came out the next day, on time, while I was waiting for him my neighbor had an issue with her AC and couldn’t get anyone to come out in a heat wave and Timmy repaired her unit right then and there. So between me and her everything is COOL in the neighborhood. He is the easiest person to work with, very knowledgeable and respectful. Couldn’t be happier.

Tim squeezed in my elderly mom to get her AC fixed right before the heatwave. He was meticulous in his work, and her 15 year old mini split now looks and works like it’s brand new. I’m so grateful - thanks Tim!

Excellent service. Once the parts were in, the install took little over a day for an entire AC unit replacement with new lines.
