Twenty-seven building permits — almost all of them historic South End and Newton brownstone work — sit behind DeBord Construction Boston, the one-person carpentry and renovation outfit Chris DeBord has run out of the South End since 2002. The company says DeBord got his start renovating half of a Boston brownstone he bought in 1996, and that he earned his Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License in 2006. The permits do the talking: mansard roof, dormer and cornice restoration, copper gutter work, plus kitchen and bath remodels and deck rebuilds. That history gives the company a BuildZoom Score of 92, in the top 32% of Massachusetts licensed contractors. On Houzz, its two showcased projects are a South End patio and a Union Park head house, and Google shows a 4-star rating from four ratings. Houzz lists a 'City of Boston Licensed General Contractor' certification for the company, and BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for it, #179337. The company's own site separately cites a Home Improvement Contractor registration, #139943, and a Construction Supervisor License, #CS092964, for DeBord — and BuildZoom lists that #139943 number too, under a separate entry. The two registrations are worth reconciling directly with the state before booking. This is a strong call for South End or Newton-area brownstone and historic-carpentry work — cornices, dormers, copper gutters — where the permit history speaks for itself. Get the scope in writing and check the licence numbers with the state before hiring.
