Design Build Boston Construction, LLC

Design Build Boston Construction is a Charlestown design-build firm that puts architecture and construction under one roof, with a focus on new builds, additions, renovations and deep-energy retrofits built to Passive House-level performance. Arick Dyrdal runs the one-employee LLC, which the company's site says was started in 2015 and incorporated in 2020; for insurance purposes it functions alongside a sister company, Design-Build Architects, as effectively one operation. The firm holds an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor license, an A+ (non-accredited) Better Business Bureau grade, and both a Certified Passive House Builder and PHIUS Certified Builder credential. It also carries active Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office minority- and veteran-owned business certifications. BuildZoom gives it a 96 score and shows three sampled municipal permits: two bathroom renovations filed in Malden in March 2025 (one for $52,000, the other — at $90,000 — later canceled) and a $50,000 two-story front porch replacement in Somerville from 2022. Given the Passive House specialization, this looks like a strong fit for a deep energy-retrofit or new build — confirm directly whether they also take on more conventional, smaller-scope renovation work.
