Devlin Energy sells and installs residential solar out of Hingham, and its Google file tells two stories at once: 3.9 stars across 76 ratings, with the five-star half praising the sale and the install, and the one-star half describing what happened after the panels were on the roof. The praise is specific and it repeats across years. Homeowners writing between 2022 and 2025 named the people who handled them — Kyle, Andy, Kim, Matthew, Roy — and described no-pressure quoting, detailed written proposals, and crews who left the site clean; a June 2025 reviewer called the installation crew “very professional courteous and neat,” and a 2023 customer who collected multiple quotes chose Devlin for being local at a competitive, though not the lowest, price. Several liked that one company handled panels, permits, paperwork and inspection instead of three. The complaints are just as specific, and they cluster on the same seam: what happens after the contract is signed. A homeowner writing in November 2025 was still waiting on a system sold in April 2025, after a design the utility would not support and an interconnection application filed incorrectly. Another, in October 2025, described chasing the service team about an underperforming panel on a 2020 install. In 2024, reviewers described a ground-mount that took close to a year, a $425 charge to roll a truck for a failed inverter, and a system that did not shut down when the electric company cut power — the utility locked it out. There is a visible pattern of the company answering a bad review after it lands. Two reviewers revised earlier one- and three-star posts after Matthew Devlin reached out and, in their words, made it right, including a 2021 customer who had been invoiced $1,300 for “services provided prior to cancellation.” That cuts both ways: the recovery is real, and so is the fact that it often took a public post to get it. Its Better Business Bureau file carries an A+ grade and accreditation, and lists battery storage, ground mounts, car ports, EV chargers and roofing alongside solar. A Boston 25 News story in November 2022 quoted Thomas Janoski as the company's director of engineering in Hingham. Devlin is a reasonable call if you want a local installer who will quote without pressure and carry the permitting and interconnection paperwork themselves — provided you get the schedule in writing. Before signing, pin down the interconnection timeline and who owns that filing, what a post-installation service visit costs, and how change orders and cancellation charges work. Those three are what reviewers came back to most.

I have been waiting for my system since late April 2025. At first there were manny delays because of devlin selling me a system that national grid would not support. Revised system plan was done, then the interconnected applications wasn’t filled out properly 3 months delayed here. It’s now November 2025, installation was supposed to happen on 11/20/2025, didn’t happen. They told me to dig trench from where the batteries were going to the house across the driveway. I explained I can’t have the driveway blocked as is critical to get in and out. Tech told me they will be back first thing in the morning, morning came no one showed up. I called my representative he stated that they would be back the following week, lost my mind with a trench dug up, driveway impassable. Spoke to Cindy from devlin who said she could get somebody to come Friday (3 days later) to do the electric conduit and close the trench. Which was done. Now 3 weeks later (11/24/2025) still waiting on proper roof brackets. Escalated to Cindy office manager/vp getting the BS responses or ghosted text messages being ignored. I don’t understand how this company is still in business If I don’t get a response today, I’m going to call the better business bureau to file a complaint and TV station to do on air TV report on Devlin business practices. My patients is running out!
I purchased a Solar System From Devlin in 2020 which was not a great experience and This year We noticed a panel was under performing. I reached out to the service team (Brian) and he replied quickly saying he would have Enphase reset the MI. I reached out again and he said he would check to see if they had done the reset. I reached out again and he ghosted me. (3/3/2025 Initial email) I started calling the service department to try to get a hold of someone to take care of my issue. Farley told me he would ask and they should be back to me soon. 6/2/2025 after multiple calls to the service department I got an email from Brian saying my system was fine and a bunch or reports saying that it was producing. I replied that It was stated it was the panel and that he would add Seth to get a warranty claim started with CertainTeed 7/1/2025 I emailed the group email asking if there was an update and they replied saying they will ask CertainTeed again if there is an update. 7/10/2025 CertainTeed sends email saying they have opened a claim and that Devlin should send out a crew to check the panel 8/2025 I exchanged emails with CertainTeed about if Devlin had contacted them and they had not heard. I called multiple times and the CertainTeed Rep contacted them as well. 9/2/2025 Devlin Emails me saying 2 service reps are on their way out in 2 hours to look at the panel. I have sent emails to the CertainTeed rep asking if they gave any information from the crew coming out and she said none. I called Devlin again and they said a separate crew needs to come out to "Rectify the issue." I have called a few more times and have gotten the standard" I will reach out to the Service team" from Farley. So I am going on 8 Months now I would not recommend this company
In 2023, we decided to look into using solar energy for our house. After a lot of careful research and comparing different options available to us, we settled on Devlin Energy. And we are very happy we did. There were some delays in getting the project started, but once it began we were very pleased with the work and the professionalism of the crew. Admittedly, we were skeptical about the benefits of solar energy in regards to savings, but after almost 2 years, our concerns have been satisfied. And the back up battery system works very well. There have been several times it has been needed, and we didn’t know the power in our area was off, it was that seamless. For us, Devlin Energy was the right choice. And we would recommend them for anyone considering converting to solar energy. Don and Missy S.
Devlin`s installation crew was great very professional courteous and neat.
From the beginning of our solar journey, Jon from Devlin Energy was not just a skilled salesman, but also a reliable professional who made sure everything went smoothly from start to finish. We spent months researching local companies and even created a spreadsheet to compare options, thinking we already knew the best solution for our large solar project. However, after meeting Jon, we realized we were missing out on a superior product, better warranties, and a local solar loan option. Jon provided clear and informative communication throughout the entire process, explaining expectations, timelines, and what we could expect from the installation. Even after the system was installed, he continued to follow up to ensure everything was in place. The installation team was equally professional, getting the system up and running with ease. The solar system not only functions perfectly but looks aesthetically pleasing as well. While we are still waiting for the final inspections before turning it on, we are confident the system will work as expected. Despite some negative reviews we've seen, we found those to be explainable and unrelated to the service from Devlin Energy. Based on our experience, we highly recommend Jon and the entire team at Devlin for anyone considering solar. They’ve exceeded our expectations and truly stand out in the industry.
