Renewable Energy Systems — trading as RES Solar out of Cohasset — is a solar thermal shop rather than a rooftop-PV outfit, and its permit trail says so plainly: 23 recorded projects between 2012 and 2025, nearly all of them solar hot water. Collectors and pre-heat tanks in Marshfield, collector replacements in Cohasset and Milton, an evacuated-tube system in Manchester, pool heating in Hingham and Norwell. Erica Boyle is listed as the owner on both its BBB and BuildZoom profiles, and the Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office lists the company's Women Business Enterprise certification as active through February 2027. BBB grades it A+, though it is not BBB accredited, and describes a six-person LLC doing thermal, PV and pool heating work for homes and businesses. On its own site the company says it has been installing solar hot water for 20 years and has put in more than 1,000 systems around the region. The jobs are not all small ones. BuildZoom's records include a $44,000 Marshfield installation in 2012 and a 2016 Cambridge commercial system — six collectors and a 400-gallon tank, at $39,900 — alongside residential collector swaps in the $3,500 to $12,500 range and solar pool heating in Hingham in 2025. What you can't get here is much customer voice. Neither the BBB profile nor the BuildZoom one publishes any customer reviews, and the only account written by a customer anywhere is from 2019, on EnergySage: a homeowner whose leaking Oventrop dual water tank was replaced said the quoted price was the price charged, and the crew showed up when it said it would. Two things to pin down before hiring. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #174539, that it says it verified active in March 2026, plus an earlier registration #161779 it shows as inactive and cancelled at one point — ask for the current number and check it against the state registry yourself. And the site's claim to be a certified solar installer names no certifying body, so ask which one. For solar hot water or pool heating on the South Shore, this is a genuine specialist with a long, publicly documented run of exactly that work. Ask for references from recent installs, because the permits are what carry the record here.
