Walk into the DOCA Boston showroom on Boylston Street and the pitch is materials — reviewers keep singling out finishes most kitchen companies don't stock, one a self-described interior designer calling a eucalyptus veneer "unlike anything we'd seen elsewhere." The company designs and installs custom kitchens, closets and built-in cabinetry across Brookline, Newton, Wellesley and the rest of the western suburbs, and the same names come up again and again in its reviews: Boris and Gerry, described by one Brookline client as having built their whole house, kitchen and family-room cabinetry included, fourteen years earlier — the client wrote in a 2024 review that it "still looks as good as it did on day 1." Named staff recur elsewhere too: a 2024 review credits Senior Designer Chelsea with rescuing a kitchen after "incomplete and inferior work" from a previous contractor, confirming measurements twice and following up on cabinet care after the install — the same review singles out an installation team of "two Miguels" who worked around the earlier contractor's mistakes to finish the job. A newer wave of reviews from earlier this year describes the same pattern: a kitchen project that grew into closets and vanities, decisions the team helped work through, and material selection called out by name. Not every account is glowing. A 2024 review reports the opposite experience — a deposit paid, a missed delivery timeline, and the customer left to find another contractor on short notice. It is a sharper complaint than anything else on file and worth raising directly, especially around deposit terms and scheduling commitments, before signing. Two more things worth checking: the state registry shows DOCA's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#212047) as expired, and its BBB page — an A- based mainly on how long the company has been operating, not on customer complaints or reviews — notes DOCA is not a BBB Accredited Business. Neither is disqualifying on its own, but both are worth asking about before writing a deposit check.
