Dunphy Plumbing & Heating is Bill Dunphy — a West Harwich plumber who, by his own account, runs the company himself and does the work rather than sending a tech or a subcontractor. The state registry lists him as holder of an active Massachusetts journeyman plumber licence, #31699-PL-J, and his site puts his hands-on experience at more than twenty years across Harwich, Dennis, Chatham, Brewster and Yarmouth. What customers write about first is the phone. In an August 2026 review, a homeowner whose gas water heater quit on a Friday afternoon and flooded the basement had two other companies quoting Monday or Tuesday; Dunphy answered and had it fixed the next day. A 2023 caller reached him on a Friday night over Christmas weekend and had him at the house by 10am the following morning, and another 2023 customer got a July 4th repair done in time for the party. A May 2026 couple who hit a boiler and plumbing leak the day they got into town describe him arriving immediately and declining to sell them anything they did not need. The work clusters around water and heat. Water heaters run through the reviews in every form — a warranty hybrid electric unit he ordered, installed and hauled the old one away for in March 2026, a three-zone water heater and boiler, a tankless unit in a June 2025 job, and a twenty-year-old shower faucet he tracked down to match the rest of the bathroom's fixtures. On the heating side, a 2023 customer's failed gas furnace became a new furnace and matched A/C system installed within a week; others describe an oil-to-gas conversion in 2022, heat pump cleaning and repair, and gas lines run to a grill and to a fireplace converted from propane. BuildZoom shows 21 permits pulled, mostly gas, water-heater and plumbing work across Cape Cod towns. The pricing notes are unusually specific for a plumber. A January 2023 customer said the invoice for a next-day faucet replacement and a new refrigerator water line came in lower than expected; a 2023 reviewer called the price for a same-afternoon water heater repair reasonable; a 2026 reviewer said the same about a three-zone water heater and boiler. Two things are worth settling before you book. The company advertises 24/7 emergency service on its own site while its HomeAdvisor profile's FAQ states there is none, so ask directly what after-hours coverage means. And the operation is small by design — one licensed plumber plus a helper named in several reviews — so a scheduled job may sit behind an emergency. The written accounts live almost entirely on Google, where 62 ratings average 4.7; the Angi and HomeAdvisor mirrors carry none.
“I’d recommend Dunphy Plumbing & Heating based in Harwich area. He helped us out with our instant hot water heater not working properly. Smaller company, very personable, honest, and our experience of the work has been great [https://www.dunphyplumbingandheating.com](https://www.dunphyplumbingandheating.com)”
On a late Friday summer afternoon my gas fired water heater decided to quit working, and flood my basement and garage. I frantically started calling around for a licensed plumber. Do you know who answers his phone when other businesses have started their weekend? Bill Dunphy, the owner of Dunphy Plumbing and Heating. After being told by 2 other companies that the earliest they could be on site was Monday and Tuesday, it was a relief to hear Bill tell me he could have it fixed the next day. Bill was professional, prompt, personable, and worked quickly. He showed up when he said he would, explained what he had to do, and left the work area neat and clean. It’s obvious he takes great pride in his business. I would highly recommend Bill, a licensed plumber, for any plumbing issues you might have.

Bill is terrific. After many other plumbers failed, he solved a longstanding issue with our furnace/water tank. We have hired him over the years for several other projects. He is prompt, responsible, knowledgeable and has a great personality to boot! I highly recommend him.
Bill was prompt and professional. I would use him anytime I needed plumbing services. Bill installed our hot water tank in just a day or two when I couldn’t get any other plumber to return my call.
