Earthwood Construction is an owner-run carpentry shop on Silver Street in South Boston, and its own site sells one idea: frame to finish. Paul Lenaghan is named as the owner both on the company's site and on its BuildZoom listing. The work it advertises runs from framing through fine finish carpentry, historic renovations, and interior and exterior painting. Very little has been written about the company by anyone else. The one outside voice is a Reddit commenter who, in a 2022 r/boston thread about general contractors for major renovations, said they liked the folks at Earthwood and described it as a local South Boston outfit doing frame-to-finish work and painting. An unprompted recommendation from a neighbor counts for something — but it is one anonymous line from four years ago, which is why no rating sits at the top of this page. The thing to settle before calling is the licensing. Massachusetts' registry shows the company's home improvement contractor registration, number 180570, as expired. BuildZoom lists that same number as inactive with an expiration date of 11-30-2018 and notes it was at one point cancelled. Carpentry and renovation work is not among the trades Massachusetts exempts from that registration, so ask directly whether it has since been renewed, and ask for a current certificate of insurance in the same conversation. For small finish-carpentry and painting work from a shop a South Boston neighbor was willing to name by hand, this is worth a call. For anything permitted or structural, get the registration status in writing first.
