A car went through a homeowner's centuries-old stone wall one winter. In an April 2024 review the owner said that once the snow melted, Elmer had his crew out to assess the damage, and within a few days the wall was back together in proper historical fashion, using the masonry techniques that kind of wall calls for.
Elmer's Landscaping & Construction is a family-owned business based in Lynn and Peabody that says it has been going 15 years, doing landscape design and installation, masonry, tree work, mowing, cleanups and snow management for homes and businesses around greater Boston. Its stated service area runs Lynn, Peabody, Salem, Revere, Saugus, Beverly, Malden, Danvers, Wakefield, Everett and Melrose.
Trees are a large part of the work. In a May 2025 review a customer described the crew taking down very difficult trees, one dangerously close to electrical wires, working efficiently and safely through pouring rain. In June 2025 another said a tree came down in blustery weather and Elmer answered on a summer Friday when nobody else did. A May 2023 customer hired him twice to remove eight large hardwoods and prune others, some in tight spots beside buildings.
Stonework is the other half. An October 2025 customer had a new stone retaining wall built and said the crew's experience showed in the finished work, with very reasonable pricing and a patient owner to deal with. In August 2022 a customer had a railroad-tie wall replaced with a modern stone block retaining wall, granite steps and a paver walkway, and vines cleared off an existing rock wall with fabric laid to keep them out. In May 2023 another had front and rear walkways repaired and re-grouted and about 30 yards of mulch spread, everything left neat.
Plenty of customers are on their second or fifth job. One wrote in November 2025 that Elmer's had made their yard amazing over five years; another said in April 2024 that the crew comes every two weeks to cut the lawns at both their properties; several hired them for snow plowing and shoveling in early 2025 and came back for more. A July 2025 customer had roughly 2,000 square feet re-mulched and edged, another 2,000 cleared of vines, trees and weeds, and hydrangeas, ornamental grasses and a red maple planted in the cleared ground.
The written history runs 60 reviews from 2020 to 2026, with a 5-star Google average across 31 ratings, 4.9 on Angi across 48, and an A+ letter grade from the Better Business Bureau. One March 2025 Angi entry is odd: it carries a 3-star rating while its text describes accommodating, reliable, good work on landscaping, sod, a flagstone sidewalk, levelled pavers and a block retaining wall.
Elmer's is a strong call for tree removal, retaining walls and stonework, regular lawn care, or a seasonal snow contract on the North Shore. For a wall or a large planting job, get the materials, the square footage and the plant list itemized in the quote — that is how the customers who describe their jobs in detail had theirs scoped.
