Exceptional Carpentry is a Norwood, Massachusetts carpentry and repair outfit run by Lenny Lirette — the kind of shop homeowners call for a stuck window, a soft sill, or sagging siding rather than a full renovation. On HomeAdvisor, nine reviews from 2017 through 2020 average 4.9 stars, and the same detail keeps repeating: Lirette answers fast. In a 2019 review, a DIYer said he called back within the hour and was on site the same day for a free estimate on a drywall repair. The work itself holds up too — repairing wood rot and reinstalling flashing under a door sill, replacing six-panel doors, and patching decking and siding all drew specific praise, and a 2020 BuildZoom review echoed the same appreciation for taking on a smaller job others had brushed off. A separate 2022 BuildZoom review tells a different story: the customer said the business was operating out of a residential property not zoned for commercial work, reported it to the town, and described both the finished job and the promises going into it as falling well short. BuildZoom's own two reviews average just 3 out of 5 as a result, a sharp contrast with HomeAdvisor's record for the same company. BuildZoom's directory page also lists one active Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration alongside three older numbers shown inactive, none of it independently verified. For a straightforward repair — a door, a window, a rotted sill, some siding — the older HomeAdvisor record points to careful, responsive work; given the more recent complaint, it's worth confirming the current registration and getting the scope and price in writing before anything starts.

This business is being operated out of a house in a residential area. I have notified the town hall in regards to the property not being commercially zoned. I had a terrible experience with the quality of work and the fact that they over promise and under deliver on their quality of work. I would consider them more of a handyman service than a quality carpentry outfit. Make sure you don't pay them until the job is completed. They will likely do a half ass job, make false promises, and take your money. I would strongly urge you to look at the fact there was another company running under this name that was closed down. It appears that they have had a laundry list of customer complaints and fraudulent business practices.
I was so happy with Lenny's work; I had given up on finding someone that would find my projects important. He took care of the work that needed to be done and quickly. I think anyone that meets him and experiences his work ethic will be very pleased
I had some significant wood wet rot underneath a door that had gone into the sill. Lenny did a fantastic job repairing the sill and all the framing around it, installing water barriers and metal flashing, and making sure we never have this problem again. Lenny is responsive, honest, and does high quality work. He checked in with me at various steps along the way, clearly explained what work he was going to do and why, and was always conscientious of the financial cost to me. Lenny will be my go to person for future house repairs and renovation projects!
I'm a DIYer, but after trying to fix some big drywall imperfections on my ceiling, I quickly found out that I needed the touch of a professional. I usually have to chase contractors to get them to reply to my inquiries, but Lenny got back to me within minutes (really, within the hour) and he came over to do a free estimate the same day. And he completed the work almost right away. My wife and I are very happy with the results. I highly recommend Lenny for his professionalism, his proficiency, and the value for the money.
Had a small job with a stuck window. Showed up on time, figured out the issue, and corrected. Took time in exploring all options for repair.
