Family First Contracting works out of Barnstable on Cape Cod, taking general contracting and repair jobs. Its Better Business Bureau profile describes a one-employee sole proprietorship run by Matthew Mason, with Jennifer Mason as manager, in business since 2017. Both of its Google reviews were posted on September 14, 2019. One homeowner had a doorway and railing repaired and praised the work, saying the crew fit the job into a short window of availability. The other wrote that they had handed over $1,100 in June for a job promised within a few days, that nothing had been done by September 14, and that they had canceled it. The Better Business Bureau grades the company A+ and lists it as not accredited. For a small repair or carpentry job on the Cape, this is a one-person shop. Pin down the scope, the start date and any deposit in writing before money changes hands, and confirm licensing, insurance and a couple of recent references.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Family First Contracting. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
Estimated range
$23,000 – $35,000
Typical remodeling project around $29,000
I hired Family First to repair my doorway and railing. Not only were they professional, but their quality of work is absolutely spectacular, especially with the short notice and small window of availability I had. I would recommend Family First for all your contracting needs! I know if a friend asks, I’ll be referring them. Wish I could have given TEN stars!!
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this contractor. They are the worst business I have ever dealt with. I gave them $1100 in June for a job that was going to be done in a few days. It’s now September 14, 2019 and not a single thing has been done. I’ve canceled the job and they refused to return my money. I can’t tell you how angry I am and how I advise anyone to stay away and not do business with this very questionable company . My advice to everybody who reads this is stay away from this company.
