Two reviews, posted the same day in September 2019, and they could not be further apart. That is the whole written history of Family First Contracting, a one-person general contracting shop working out of Barnstable. Its BBB file, opened in May 2019, lists a sole proprietorship with Matthew Mason as owner and Jennifer Mason as manager, and says the business started at the beginning of 2017. BBB grades it A+ and shows no complaints or government actions on the profile, though the company is not BBB accredited. The positive account is small and specific: a customer in 2019 hired them to repair a doorway and railing and wrote that the crew was professional and worked inside the narrow window that customer had available. The other 2019 account is the one that should shape a decision. That customer wrote that they paid $1,100 in June for a job promised within a few days, that nothing had been done by September 14, and that after cancelling they could not get the money back. Google's average sits at 3 stars across exactly those two ratings. Both accounts are now seven years old, and the written record stops there. So a homeowner is left holding an unresolved money dispute on one side and one satisfied small-job customer on the other, with nothing newer to tell which describes the business now. For a small carpentry or repair job, ask for recent local references you can actually phone, and put the deposit amount, the start date and the refund terms in writing before any money moves.
