Windows in a house more than 220 years old were the challenge one Family Window Cleaning customer described in June 2025. Some were painted shut. The customer said a three-person team including John were available the day they called, handled the tricky windows efficiently and did a job they recommended. A returning customer writing in June 2026 also praised the company's exterior window cleaning that year and the previous year. Family Window Cleaning and Property Maintenance advertises window and gutter cleaning, siding and roof cleaning, deck and patio restoration, house and office cleaning, and organic mosquito treatments. The company describes itself as insured and says it has been in business for 63 years. Its stated service area includes Amherst, Hadley, Northampton, the surrounding towns and Greenfield and Deerfield. Google lists 4.8 stars from 26 ratings. A November 2025 customer described gutters badly clogged with ivy and three dead rodents. They credited John with calling ahead to update the arrival time, reviewing the estimate and working efficiently with his crew. In April 2019, another customer thanked John for thoroughly cleaning their windows and praised his communication and modest prices. A June 2022 customer reported a much less favorable experience. They said they described individually paned windows with six panes per sash and received a $350 phone quote for 25 windows. The address was wrong when they called to confirm the day before. On arrival, they changed the work: removing 10 upstairs windows because of their own reorganization project and adding 15 easier sunroom windows, a net increase of five. The quoted price rose to $600-plus. Paint-drip removal added $30 at a stated $5 per drip, and the final cost after tax was close to $700. The customer said the windows were washed on a cloudy day and they were asked to check the work afterward. On the first sunny day, they found many windows streaked or still dirty. They described the experience as feeling like a bait and switch.
We recently had this company again clean our exterior windows. Their team this year and last did a fantastic job and I have nothing but praise for their work.
John and his crew did a really excellent job with (I learned) badly clogged gutters with ivy and 3 dead rodents! He called ahead to update arrival time, reviewed estimate with me, worked efficiently and was generally very organized and very pleasant. Applause!
I have a very old house (220+ years) with very old windows. I was lucky to find John and his crew were available the very day that I called. The three of them were extremely efficient and professional, dealing with some very tricky windows, some of them painted shut and needing to be persuaded to open. They did a great job. I highly recommend Family Window Cleaning.
I call Family Windown cleaning, & asked if they could come to my house to give me a quote to clean my windows. The man on the phone said he could do it over the phone. He asked me a series of questions about they type of windows, how many, etc. I gave him ALL of the information he asked for, & specified that my window were individually pane glass windows, with 6 individual panes per window Sach. I was quoted a price of $350 to wash 25 windows. They were the lowest bid, and and 5 star reviews. (Mind you I spoke with a couple of companies & I always specify, that I have individually pane glass windows.) I called the day before to confirm that I would see them on the specified date, however, the address was wrong. When they arrived, I explained that I wasn't going to have them do the 10 upstairs windows, because I started a big reorganization project upstairs, however, I wanted them to was my sunroom windows, which was not part of the Original 25 windows. THE Sunderland windows are side by side with just 1 pane of glass per sash. My quote went from $350 ,to 600,PLUS. I added 15 easier windows to clean & had subtracted 10 of the more labor intensive window, net 5 extra windows. I should have asked them to leave, but, they were there,& I needed them done. After they washed the windows,(which was a cloudy day,) they asked me to check their work. 1 or 2 windows had some paint drips on them, & I was told "it's $5 per drip to have them remove them, .....that was an additional $30. After tax my windows cost close to$700 to was, a far cry from my $350 quote. And the final kicker, was on the first sunny day, I could see many windows that were streaked, or still dirty. GET YOUR QUOTE IN WRITING!!!!! THIS FELT LIKE A BATE & SWITCH JOB TO ME.
Our windows look great! Big thanks to John for a job well done. He's super-conscientious and went the extra mile to make sure our windows were thoroughly cleaned. We appreciated his clear communication, modest prices, thoughtfulness, and excellent results.
