Fontaine Mechanical Heating, Cooling, Plumbing works on boilers, AC systems, water heaters and household plumbing. The company says it has been in business for 40 years, and its BBB grade is A+. One customer's AC went out on a hot day; Mike explained everything, ran to a supply house for the part and stayed late to get the AC running again. A customer whose AC stopped working said Mike and Devin came out the same day and had the unit running within an hour. Devin installed a boiler and hot water heater for one customer and came back later that night when an unexpected issue came up. A customer who was quoted $8,000 for a new central air unit by another company said Fontaine found the thermostat had been replaced incorrectly, and the fix cost $700. Derek and Ray installed a bathtub, water heater and sump pump for one customer in a few days. A recent customer with a two-year-old boiler said the technician spent most of the visit on the phone for guidance, a quote for over $1,500 arrived a few days later, and a follow-up request about the warranty got no response; another company found a different faulty part. A recent customer who asked for a $99 plumbing inspection was told on site by Derek that it was a $399 service. A customer whose leaking pump turned out to be unplugged was told by the manager, Steve, that the visit cost $100. A 2024 customer said no one showed up for a scheduled appointment. It holds an active Connecticut S1 heating and cooling contractor licence, HTG.0394702-S1, under William P Fontaine.
Very Disappointing Experience — Glad I Got a Second Opinion I had a very disappointing experience with Fontaine Mechanical. The one positive was that they were able to send someone out the day after I called. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. The technician who arrived seemed unfamiliar with my boiler and spent nearly the entire visit on the phone with someone else, taking pictures and texting them back and forth for guidance. At one point, he needed to drain part of the system, and because he was working alone, I actually had to stand there and assist him for approximately 15 minutes. My boiler is only two years old, and the parts are still under warranty. The technician told me which part he believed needed replacing and said they would have to order it. I specifically asked whether they could submit the part under warranty so I wouldn’t have to pay for it, and he assured me they could. A few days later, I received a quote for over $1,500, with no breakdown of parts versus labor and no indication that the part had been submitted under warranty. I had already paid for the initial service visit. I responded and again requested that they contact the boiler manufacturer to have the part covered under warranty. I never received a response. Meanwhile, my house was still cold, and I needed to get the heat working. I finally contacted another HVAC company for a second opinion. They came out, diagnosed an entirely different faulty part, obtained that part under warranty, and successfully fixed my heat. I cannot express how relieved I am that I didn’t proceed with Fontaine Mechanical’s proposed repair. Based on the second company’s diagnosis and successful repair, I could have spent over $1,500 replacing a part that wasn’t even causing the problem. What makes this even more frustrating is that during the initial visit, I specifically asked the technician what would happen if the part he identified wasn’t actually the issue. His response was that there might be multiple things wrong with the system. That didn’t sit right with me, especially considering the boiler is only two years old. Given the technician’s apparent lack of knowledge and inability to diagnose the problem correctly, combined with the company’s failure to respond to my follow-up, I believe a refund of my initial service fee is more than justified. I paid for a professional diagnosis, yet ultimately had to contact another company to properly identify and resolve the issue. It’s frustrating to have paid for a service that provided no resolution, especially when the company didn’t even have the courtesy to respond to my concerns. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to get a second opinion before agreeing to an expensive repair.
Very good service, fast assembly and installation, the technician showed professionalism from the beginning till the end of the job, id recommend Fontaine serviced to anyone who needs it.

Recently had a bathtub, water heater and sump pump installed. Derek and Ray were great! They came and finished the job in a few days and were pleasant and professional. They also took time to clean up and go over some details with me that I should know about. I Had one minor issue with the overflow drain on the tub and it was fixed promptly hours after I discovered and called the following day. Great service! The prices were good and overall great experience. I recommend Fontaine for all things HVAC and Plumbing will used them again.
