In April 2026 a customer's propane boiler stopped igniting overnight, leaving them without heat or hot water. They called Steve of General Mechanix first thing the next morning, and he was at the house repairing it within the hour, explained the cause and the options, and charged what the customer called a reasonable price. The Bangor company says it specializes in plumbing and heating service and installation and offers 24/7 emergency service, and a Bangor Daily News item names Steve Farren as its master plumber. In a March 2025 review, a customer wrote that they hired General Mechanix in January 2025 for a new water heater and found Steve honest and punctual. A December 2024 customer wrote that they use the company for all their plumbing and heating projects and maintenance, and that Steven shows up on time and explains how to keep everything running. In a November 2023 review, a customer whose furnace died, leaving them two weeks without heat or hot water, wrote that Steve installed a new furnace with no hidden costs and hauled away a heavy old motor left in the basement. Maine's registry shows plumber licence MS90016413 and HVAC licence PNT11650, both active and held by Steven M. Farren, and on Google the business holds 5 stars from 12 ratings.
“said Steve Farren, master plumber at General Mechanix in Bangor.”
Steve was fantastic to work with. Last night, my propane boiler stopped igniting, which left us without heat or hot water that evening. I called Steve first thing the next morning, and he was at my house, repairing it within the hour. His repair was efficient, and he clearly communicated both his diagnosis of the cause and my options going forward. On top of it all his services were reasonably priced. I highly recommend Steve if you run into an issue with your hearing system!
I had the pleasure of utilizing General Mechanix services back in January 2025 as I needed a new water heater. Steve was a pleasure to work with, honest, punctual, detailed and direct. I am so thankful and highly recommend!
I use General Mechanix for all of my plumbing/heating projects and maintenance. Steven is always quick to respond, shows up on time, and his work is excellent. He goes out of his way to make sure that you understand what is being done and how to keep everything running smoothly. And he ALWAYS has a smile!
Steve was our hero!! My furnace died and we had no heat or hot water for 2 weeks and my house was cold!! Steve was professional, efficient, courteous and affordable. He installed a new furnace, no hidden costs. He even hauled away a big heavy old motor that previous tenants left in basement freeing up storage space. It’s always a relief to find skilled tradesmen you can trust so I’ll use General Mechanix for all my future plumbing needs.
