Ice-cold baseboards and a thermostat stuck at 52 degrees: a homeowner called Genove one December morning in 2025 and had heat back before the day was out. That is the job this company is built around. Another customer in October 2024, who had never used them before, had the heat working again half an hour after the truck pulled up — in what they knew was the busiest week of the year for an oil company. Genove Oil & Air has worked out of Waltham since 1977, founded by Phil in West Newton and later joined by his brother Frank, and it still calls itself family-owned. The work splits between fuel — heating oil and Bioheat delivery, tank installations, annual tune-ups — and equipment: oil and gas furnaces, boilers, water heaters, central and ductless air conditioning, and heat pumps, with 24/7 emergency service. The Better Business Bureau has held it accredited since September 2011 at an A+ grade. Armando, Shawn and Tom replaced an 80-year-old boiler in February 2025. Richie and Ryan installed a new air conditioning system in June 2026. In May 2026 a crew reworked poorly designed ductwork, fitted a new compressor and exchanger, and had an upstairs unit blowing cold air in two days. In August 2025 a household had three splits put in after the team worked through where they would cool the house best, and in July 2024 another got central air into a basement several companies had called too awkward. When a customer's boiler died in April 2026 mid-way through a four-mini-split installation, it was replaced inside the same run of work. People stay. Reviewers writing in 2024 and 2026 describe 15 years, about 30 years, and more than 40 years with the company, and one wrote in March 2026 that in a volatile oil market the owner calls personally with pricing so customers can decide for themselves, with no push. Not every visit has gone that way. In January 2022 a customer on the automatic-fill program said the tank ran out anyway, after several calls warning it was nearly empty. In July 2024 a HomeAdvisor customer found an air conditioning service thin — sprayed with a cleaner, temperatures checked — and said the unit was dripping water a few weeks later. The company also states that it employs licensed technicians without publishing any licence numbers, so ask for the technician's licence if that matters to you.
