Eight weeks to make a neglected 1860s Greek Revival livable before a winter lease ran out. A 2012 client described Geoffrey Richon and his team doing exactly that — pulling out fireplaces, chimneys, attics, walls, a leaky roof and windows to open the plan up. It is the sharpest picture available of what this Gloucester firm takes on. Geoffrey H. Richon Co. works from 19 Duncan Street in Gloucester, with Geoffrey and Tobias Richon named as owners, and lists Gloucester, Ipswich, Rockport, Essex and Manchester as its towns. Stated job costs run $50,000 to $2 million, and its Houzz page claims two energy credentials — Passive House Institute US Certified Builder and Energy Star Partner. The written accounts are warm, and they are old. A 2015 reviewer, a repeat client who first hired the firm around 2006 for a condo renovation and came back later for mid-century-modern restoration work, wrote about trusting the company and mentioned a solarium roof rebuilt at no charge. The third of its three reviews is not a customer at all: a landscape designer who shares clients with the firm wrote it as a trade peer, which is a referral rather than a verdict on a job. The permit trail is more current than the reviews. BuildZoom lists 16 permitted projects between 2009 and 2023 across Manchester, Beverly, Gloucester, Newburyport and Danvers, so the firm has kept working steadily while its written history stayed put after 2015. BuildZoom's score of 100 comes from those permits rather than from customers, and that site carries no reviews of its own. Then the licence question, which is the thing to settle before signing. The number the company publishes on its own Houzz profile, CS006098, is the same number BuildZoom lists as inactive and at one point cancelled; BuildZoom instead shows CS-087134 as an active construction supervisor licence and home improvement contractor registration 206649 as active, alongside an older cancelled HIC number. Those are a directory's records, not the state's — ask which numbers are current and look them up on the Massachusetts registry yourself. For an old Cape Ann house, especially one where energy performance is part of the brief, this is a serious candidate on the strength of those 2012 and 2015 accounts and a permit history running to 2023. Ask for references from work finished in the last two or three years, and note that Marblehead is not among the towns it lists.

There is no higher compliment you can say about a product or service than to say you "trust" it. I am pleased to say we unequivocally trust the contractor services of the Geoffery H. Richon Company. I first met Geoffrey Richon almost 10-years ago and selected him for a condo renovation involving a kitchen, pantry and laundry. The result was so special it was featured editorial in a shelter magazine. Geoffrey and son Tobias lead the company that in addition to exceptional craftsmanship in new builds is widely know for their renovation services whether for period architecture or modern. Due to their reputation and high-profile projects, they have attracted craftsman w/ uncommon skill sets including fine finished carpentry expertise, to the company. An important bonus is their sub-contractors ...plumbing, electrical, specialty - floor finishing to plasterers, clearly chosen for their integrity, skill and creativity. They stand behind all their work. We had some interior issues in our unheated solarium with water resulting from this past winter related to ice dams. Several years earlier Richon had renovated the solarium including a section of its rood. There was exterior staining running along the soffits and one section of the interior wall had paint peeling where water dripped in. Geoffrey and Tobias surveyed the problem, rebuilt / re-shingled the entire solarium roof and overhang ( we have a mid-century modern home) ...no charge...no questions asked! They have the latest technology (CAD) to work w/ clients to produce design drawing and have substantial experience working with the region's architectural firms. Complementing our trust in their planning, workmanship... is our confidence that the final product will meet and / or exceed expectation and with it at all important peace of mind. Since the condo and for the past 15 years in a seaside town, we have been happily enjoying our mid-century modern home, have worked with the Richon's on two restoration projects, and have been pleased to recommend their services to a number of friends and colleagues Our contractors...our friends Peter & Charlotte Minasian,

We had 8 weeks to turn a neglected 1860's Greek Revival house into a home we could move into before our winter lease ran out. Geoffrey and his team preformed a miracle by designing a new, open plan by removing fireplaces, chimneys, attics, walls, a leaky roof and windows, and turning it all into a jewel of a house. No other contractor was even willing to attempt what had to be done, let alone design something more or less on the fly. Geoffrey Richon's experience and talent saved the day! The photos attached only show part of one room.
