Glover's Floor Coverings

Glover's has been selling floors in Gloucester since 1948, and the same family still runs it. BBB records a three-person company at 18 Whittemore Street with Mark R. Glover as president — the address the store moved to in 1974, when urban renewal reshaped downtown. A Gloucester Times obituary describes the founder staying active in the business he started right up until his death. Seventy-eight years in one trade in one small city is the headline fact here. What customers keep describing is the sales floor, not the sales pitch. In a 2022 review, a shopper called the people there kind and respectful and — in their own capitals — NOT PUSHY, adding that they always start at Glovers and have never had to go anywhere else. A 2023 customer had stair runners and hallway carpet installed and called the pricing reasonable. The store sells and installs carpet, vinyl and LVP, hardwood, laminate and ceramic tile for homes across Cape Ann and the North Shore; Rockport, Manchester, Magnolia, Essex, Ipswich, Beverly, Salem, Marblehead, Hamilton and Wenham are the towns it names. It has held BBB accreditation since 2009 with an A+ grade. It also shows up in the local press as one of the trades the town calls on: a 2017 Good Morning Gloucester piece listed Glovers among the crew on a community installation, and a 2018 item reported the company donated and installed the carpet for a local project. What limits the read is volume, not tone. Google puts them at a flat 5 stars, but across 13 ratings — and only two of those carry any written text, the most recent from 2023. Everything written is positive; there simply isn't much of it, and none of it is recent. Massachusetts doesn't require home improvement contractor registration for floor-covering-only work, so there's no badge to check here. For carpet, a stair runner, or a straightforward hardwood or LVP install on Cape Ann, this is a small shop with a long local memory. Ask for a couple of recent references and a written quote, and you'll have about as much as anyone can tell you.
