Great Sky Solar is a Lexington solar installer, and one recent Google customer with a peaky Victorian roof and skylights said the company designed around both and that installation took less than a week. The company's website describes it as designing and installing residential solar with its own crews rather than subcontractors, and lists a second contact location in Mt. Pleasant, SC. On Google it holds 5 stars from 774 ratings. One customer who contacted nine companies said Great Sky removed their existing array before a major renovation, installed the new system after the roof was complete, and handled permitting and reconnection. A customer who passed on cheaper bids from bigger companies said 30 panels took 2 days with a crew of 4, and that they cleaned up at the end. One customer wrote that Great Sky didn't ask for any payment until the project was permitted, while everyone else wanted a large portion of the fee upfront. A customer whose system had a connection issue after nearly a year of operation said the maintenance team came out and diagnosed and fixed it the same day for no charge. A 2026 customer said the company brought its own plumbers and electricians to the installation and rerouted some vent pipes so the array would look continuous on the roof. A 2026 customer whose array went in two years earlier said the electrician brought an existing underground conduit up to code. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 177102, is active on the state registry under Great Sky Solar, Inc. Its Massachusetts electrician license, number 4850, is also active on the state registry. A 2025 Reddit commenter who used Great Sky Solar for an original installation and later an extension said the company could sometimes be slow and that they had to follow up a few times to get things going, though they still recommended them.
“I went with MA-based Great Sky Solar for my original installation and then a second time for an extension. They are great and trustworthy but sometimes can be slow.”
“We ended up going with Great Sky. Happy with their service.”
“Big +++ for Great Sky Solar. I appreciate that they're based in Arlington, MA, just up the road from me.”
“Great Sky Solar, BrighStar (not BrightPlanet) and New England Clean Energy are pretty much the only ones in Eastern MA that are 100% honest and legitimate”
“Quote 3: Great Sky Solar”
Highly recommend Great Solar. They are just fantastic. The immediate feedback on energy consumption/export reinforces that this such a good thing for the planet. Just do it with Great Solar.
We were very impressed with Great Sky's competitive quote and professional team for our roof-based residential solar project. After signing our Letter of Intent, we moved quickly through the engineering and permitting stages of the process. Unfortunately, we were not able to settle some legal details with our condominium neighbors in time for the final contract to be signed, so we had to put our plans on hold. In future, we look forward to working with Great Sky again if our situation changes.
We had an excellent experience with Great Sky Solar. I evaluated about 15 companies and contacted 9, and Great Sky stood out from the competition for their professionalism and the technical thoroughness of their proposal. They identified important constraints with our new array that other companies missed. Every person we worked with—from sales and project management to office support, removal, and installation—was professional, responsive, pleasant, and reliable. They removed our existing array before a major renovation, installed the new system after the roof was complete, handled permitting and reconnection, and finished ahead of schedule. Our system is now producing electricity and appears to be exceeding their estimated production. Great Sky did exactly what they promised, and they did it with a 'personal touch' feel where other companies felt more like high pressure sales discussions. I cannot recommend them highly enough!
Great Sky Solar did a fantastic job installing solar and a PowerWall at our home. We have a tricky situation with a peaky Victorian roof and skylights, which they deftly designed around. Installation was quick (less than a week), and everyone was professional and courteous. I appreciate that Great Sky was conservative in estimating the % of electricity demand that would be met by solar; our actual generation has exceeded their forecasts. I have recommended Great Sky to a couple of other friends who also used them and had similarly good experiences. I recommend them without hesitation.
I had a great experience working with great sky solar. They helped walk me through the available incentives and provided my home with a large solar ray and Home batteries seamlessly. Rebecca and Sam were great to work with.
