Great Sky Solar is a Lexington-based residential solar company that designs and installs rooftop arrays and batteries across Greater Boston, and the thing reviewers keep returning to is that the same company does the whole job — quoting, design, permitting and installation with in-house crews rather than subcontractors. The record is enormous and unusually consistent: 5 stars across 774 Google ratings, with 712 reviews spanning 2021 to 2026. Read the recent ones and a pattern emerges around hard roofs and honest numbers. One customer with a peaky Victorian roof and skylights describes the array being designed around the obstacles and installed in under a week, with actual generation beating the estimate they were given. Another had 30 panels up in two days with a crew of four. Another got a design through a local historic district committee. One reviewer, an evident stickler, checked the roof attachments and found them properly aligned with rafters with no missed anchors. Process is the other recurring theme. Customers describe a 12-step "Solar Installation Roadmap" ending at Permission to Operate that let them follow progress, and several contrast the experience explicitly with door-knocking, lease-bait sales outfits. Support does not appear to stop at commissioning: one customer had a micro-inverter warranty claim approved within a week and the part replaced, and long-tenured customers describe service calls handled years after install. Two honest caveats. They are frequently not the cheapest — one reviewer went with them despite lower bids from bigger companies, and on Reddit a Boston homeowner collecting ten quotes ultimately preferred a rival's price. And reviewers describe a small company, so ask about scheduling; one project sat months waiting on the utility to move a meter, which is outside the installer's control but shapes the timeline. One more thing worth knowing about the record itself: more than half of these reviews were posted in the last six months, so the volume is recent and heavily concentrated.

Highly recommend Great Solar. They are just fantastic. The immediate feedback on energy consumption/export reinforces that this such a good thing for the planet. Just do it with Great Solar.

We were very impressed with Great Sky's competitive quote and professional team for our roof-based residential solar project. After signing our Letter of Intent, we moved quickly through the engineering and permitting stages of the process. Unfortunately, we were not able to settle some legal details with our condominium neighbors in time for the final contract to be signed, so we had to put our plans on hold. In future, we look forward to working with Great Sky again if our situation changes.

We had an excellent experience with Great Sky Solar. I evaluated about 15 companies and contacted 9, and Great Sky stood out from the competition for their professionalism and the technical thoroughness of their proposal. They identified important constraints with our new array that other companies missed. Every person we worked with—from sales and project management to office support, removal, and installation—was professional, responsive, pleasant, and reliable. They removed our existing array before a major renovation, installed the new system after the roof was complete, handled permitting and reconnection, and finished ahead of schedule. Our system is now producing electricity and appears to be exceeding their estimated production. Great Sky did exactly what they promised, and they did it with a 'personal touch' feel where other companies felt more like high pressure sales discussions. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Great Sky Solar did a fantastic job installing solar and a PowerWall at our home. We have a tricky situation with a peaky Victorian roof and skylights, which they deftly designed around. Installation was quick (less than a week), and everyone was professional and courteous. I appreciate that Great Sky was conservative in estimating the % of electricity demand that would be met by solar; our actual generation has exceeded their forecasts. I have recommended Great Sky to a couple of other friends who also used them and had similarly good experiences. I recommend them without hesitation.

I had a great experience working with great sky solar. They helped walk me through the available incentives and provided my home with a large solar ray and Home batteries seamlessly. Rebecca and Sam were great to work with.
