"A precision rebuild" is how a February 2026 customer described their deck and outside shower, and that is the register most of this work sits in: a big mahogany deck with an outdoor shower in a July 2023 project, a deck in June 2026 that its owner said had never looked better, a carport added to a garage in 2021 where the crew took the owners' vague design ideas and improved them before building.
Green Island Homes is an Edgartown general contractor working Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod — custom and modular new builds, additions, decks, roofing, siding, septic systems, landscaping and year-round property management, with in-house crews. Colin Young owns it, and customers also name carpenter David Hackett and his son Andrew, who in a February 2025 project took down an old deck, added a room and handled some kitchen remodeling, proposing solutions of their own along the way. The company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #196534, is active on the state registry in its own name and runs to August 2027.
Families come back. A brother and sister had siding and windows installed in 2024, were pleased enough to contract for a backyard privacy fence the following year, and wrote that their 40-year-old family home looks brand new. An owner living in Maryland had a Falmouth deck replaced in 2020 and said the distance never became a problem — the project manager was easy to reach and the job went smoothly. Another 2020 customer said the work was done exactly as described and stayed within budget.
Two accounts pull the other way, and one is serious. A 2022 reviewer of a build described a foundation set two feet too high — high enough that they have to bend to reach the garage light switch — along with a list of other things gone wrong. That same account is posted on both Angi and BuildZoom, so it is one customer, not two. Separately, a July 2021 customer said the builder had not discussed every detail of a deck, that things were done they were not happy with, and that while it is sturdy enough, some of the work was sloppy; the company posted a reply to that review.
A couple of smaller things. The website says two decades on the islands, while the Angi profile carries a "29 years of experience" highlight. The HomeAdvisor Elite Service, Top Rated and Screened & Approved badges shown on the site are the company's own listing. Angi's spread across 15 ratings is 80 percent five-star with one three-star and one one-star.
For a deck, an addition, siding and windows, or a new build on the Vineyard or the Cape, this is a small in-house crew with a live state registration and customers who hire them a second time. Given that 2022 account, get the plan — dimensions, elevations, finishes — agreed in writing before anyone breaks ground, and walk the site with Colin at each stage.
