Green Island Homes works out of 223 Upper Main Street in Edgartown and describes itself as a family-run general contractor covering Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod, with two decades on the islands and in-house crews for new builds, modular homes, additions, decks, roofing, siding, septic and year-round property care. Massachusetts' contractor registry lists Home Improvement Contractor licence 196534 as active. BuildZoom names Colin Young as owner, and reviewers name him too. Decks are what people hire them for and what they praise. A 2023 customer described a big mahogany deck with an outdoor shower and "great communication throughout"; a February 2026 customer called their deck and outside shower "a precision rebuild". A 2025 reviewer said Colin's crew re-sided the house, replaced windows and later built a backyard fence, and that their 40-year-old family home "looks brand new". A February 2025 client named the carpenters — David Hackett and his son Andrew — and said they showed up on time, cleaned the site daily and solved tricky design problems, adding that of four bids theirs was fair. The complaint that matters is a modular-home build. In a January 2022 review, a customer of a $150,000 project wrote that the foundation came in two feet too high, forcing six steps into a two-car garage that now fits one car; that the bulkhead was left off the plans and the poured foundation had to be cut for an extra $5,500; that demolition debris was left across the property; and that the garage floods when it rains. The same account appears on BuildZoom, where the profile stands at 3.0 from two reviews. A separate 2021 deck customer rated the job three stars, saying details were never discussed and "there were some sloppy things done" — the company replied publicly that the review was about its refusal to do unrelated extra work for free. Two things are worth pinning down before you sign. Ask how the project will be supervised and who is on site day to day: the strongest reviews name specific carpenters, while the worst one is about a whole-house build. And ask how long they have actually been in business — the company's own site says two decades, its Angi profile advertises 29 years of experience. For a deck, a re-side or an addition on the Vineyard or the Cape, the recent record is consistently good. For a ground-up or modular build, get the foundation and site plan reviewed independently and put every allowance in writing.
