Ground Up Home Improvement Construction is a Methuen outfit whose real footprint shows up in town permit records rather than in reviews: seven permitted jobs, most in Methuen, running from a kitchen remodel and a basement build-out to a detached garage, a full wood-to-vinyl siding replacement, and rebuilt decks and porches. Julien Plourde is the owner named on those records. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for the company, number 150175, and scores the profile 98. That is the directory's own record rather than a confirmation, so ask to see the current registration certificate along with proof of liability insurance and workers' comp. The customer side is thin, and it is not flattering. Google shows 3.7 stars from three ratings, and the one written account on record is a one-star review accusing the company of dishonesty and of work that did not match what was agreed. A single complaint is not a pattern, but one that pointed deserves a direct question — raise it with the owner and ask for the two most recent jobs you can go look at. For a straightforward interior remodel or an exterior job around Methuen, the permit trail shows this kind of work has been done before. Put scope, materials, allowances and the payment schedule in writing, confirm each subcontractor carries their own licence and insurance, and hold the final payment until you have signed off.

I had an attached garage built and the owner lied about everything and anything from day one. He said the concrete person raised his cost $5K in July and he never spoke to the the guy until September. He brought an electrician to my house without a license and insurance and actually lied about the guys name. He installed a 32 “ wide door to my kitchen while my specs and designs stated 30”. When i asked him about it, he said they don’t make 30” fire doors, which is a lie. He is a chronic liar. He built my roof too low causing the door from the garage to the patio to be so low, he ruined my level backyard, making it slope over a foot and causing water to build up six inches along the whole back of the garage. He said he couldn’t match the roof perfectly, so okay. Except my roof was charcoal black and he made the garage roof light grey and it looks ridiculous. When I wouldn’t let the electrician work without showing his license and insurance, Julien quit stating he was mentally and physically sick from my questioning his outright mistakes. I got a building permit and finished the job for almost half of the cost and he created a false invoice, without any detail , stating there was no detail for an $8,000 invoice. NO DETAILS??? Don’t trust this guy- he’s a chronic liar and will say anything he thinks that you want to hear. Everything out of his mouth is contrived.
