Guardian Fuel & Energy Systems delivers home heating oil, and its website takes orders online and describes the oil it delivers as BIOHEAT brand. A pbn.com article has described the Westerly-based company as one of a small handful of Rhode Island oil dealers offering bioheating oil. The company's website lists a service area that includes Westerly, Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond, Stonington and New London, and says it has been in business 33 years. A 2026 customer who said they had used the company for five years wrote that an oil delivery did not arrive on its scheduled date, that each call brought a different excuse, and that they were finally told the truck had broken down. That 2026 customer said they cancelled the order, asked for a refund, and had another company deliver the next morning.
“A small handful of oil dealers already sold on bioheating oil’s potential are already offering it to their customers in Rhode Island, including Westerly-based Guardian Fuel & Energy Systems Inc., which began selling a B-5 heating oil blend in November.”
I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from this oil company after being a loyal customer for five years. I placed an oil delivery order on 2/9 with delivery date of 2/11. By 2/12 — heading straight into a holiday weekend — the oil had still not been delivered. There was no proactive communication, no urgency, and absolutely no guarantee that my order would be fulfilled in a timely manner. The only updates I received were when I took it upon myself to call. Each time, I was given a different excuse. To make matters worse, when I expressed understandable frustration — after they had already taken my payment and failed to deliver — I was met with attitude instead of accountability. First excuse I received was they couldn’t get to me that day. Second excuse was they are still out delivering late - which lead me to believe the delivery was still on the way. The third and final excuse was the truck is broken down and leaking and it’s the only truck they apparently have. At one point, I was actually told to go purchase my own diesel from a gas station to “hold me over” until they might show up. That is not customer service. That is negligence. After waiting days with no delivery and no clear commitment, I cancelled my order and requested a refund. I then contacted another company that delivered the very next morning after I placed the order the night before. They charged me only after the oil was delivered — exactly how a professional operation should function. After five years of loyalty, this level of disregard is unacceptable. I will not be returning, and I would caution others to consider whether this is the level of service they are willing to accept.
