Handiqueers is a small handyservice collective based at 31 11th Street in Turners Falls, working across western Massachusetts. It describes itself as queer-owned and says it exists so that women, people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ homeowners can hire someone they feel comfortable letting into their house. Jobs are posted to a shared 'gig-hub' and picked up by whichever member has the matching skills, and the work runs from drywall, tiling and flooring through light carpentry, decks and steps to painting, power washing, clean-outs, furniture assembly and yard work, billed at $55-$85 an hour. Massachusetts lists its Home Improvement Contractor registration, number 206045, as active under Handiqueers, LLC. The carpentry is what customers write about in most detail. A homeowner writing in January 2025 described a cordwood shed built the previous summer — the team planned size, cost and siting with them and agreed to clad it in rough-sawn wood the customer already had on the property. Another January 2025 review covered a deck built in 2024, and a December 2024 customer had their front porch screened in. In April 2026 a customer had basement stairs rebuilt and called the finished work perfect, and another had railings installed after what they described as a quick response to the online request form. Communication and follow-through come up constantly. A December 2024 reviewer, comparing them with the trades generally, wrote that most contractors rarely if ever call back and that Handiqueers do. A 2025 customer hired them for four days of furniture assembly staging an apartment building and called them reliable and accommodating; a 2024 customer said the team managed plumbers, electricians and inspectors through one of its biggest projects. One recent account runs the other way, and it is the newest substantive one. In February 2026 a customer said they had sent photos, gone back and forth, accepted a quote to have their house power washed — higher than other local quotes, which they accepted to support the community — and that months later the work still had not been done and they still needed to find a contractor for it. It is a single voice against a strongly positive book, but it is the most recent, and it concerns scheduling and completion rather than workmanship. A good fit for small-to-medium carpentry and home-repair projects in the Franklin County and wider western Massachusetts area, and the obvious first call for homeowners who specifically want a queer or woman-friendly crew. Note that the business states its service is aimed at women, disabled people and LGBTQ+ clients; confirm scheduling and the completion date in writing when you accept a quote.
“I’d try the handiqueers if you’re in western ma!”
Very grateful for Handiqueers! They were very communicative and professional. Quick response to submitting a request via their online form. Easy to schedule and they were able to fit in the installation of my railings in a reasonable timeframe.
Handiqueers rebuilt our basement stairs for us. They were great at communication, worked quickly, and the finished stairs are perfect! I will be using Handiqueers for all my future projects!!!
had a really terrible experience for a number of reasons. I totally forgot about it until now until I just looked over at my house again and realized I still have to find a contractor to actually do the work that was originally supposed to actually be done by this company. It's just not a good experience all around. I was quoted to have my home power washed. simple right? I sent them pictures ahead of time, and after some back and forth they sent me a quote. I agreed to the quote. It was a bit higher than other companies nearby but I wanted to support my community. On that day, the person showed up late and also didn't even bring a commercial ladder? she had a little tiny step ladder but it didn't exactly do the trick. strange. She proceeds to leave my property with the house only halfway done. She tells me she'll be back. never returns. I get an invoice for double the cost of the original quote. I'm like ummm whaaaat... So you didn't finish the work and now you're invoicing me for double the cost? that's not how this works. so, I finally speak with someone on the phone on behalf of the company to figure out what the heck is going on and they told me that she's not returning, she got very sick and they believe it's because of my house? LOL. and also they let me know that the quote doubled even though only half of the work was done, no negotiations. I tried to reason with them and explain how change orders work etc., To help them understand why this is extremely frustrating for me as a customer. they don't know how to operate change orders. they don't know how to quote it seems... extremely unprofessional. It felt like a bait and switch. It really sucks to have had this experience especially being a queer person myself... I was so excited to work with these folks and then.. womp womp. such a shame. after lots of back and forth and snarkiness and unprofessionalism and arguing , I paid what I felt to be reasonable despite the behavior and the fact that I'm stuck with half of a dirty house because she only power washed the bottom of my house. Yes you read that right. The bottom of my house was beautifully cleaned and white and the top was still covered in debris. so, still an eyesore. It's a shame that it didn't work out with this company because the concept is really beautiful. The execution, not so much. the communication, standard protocol, and the job preparation needs to be worked on. another thing, they tried charging me for a gasoline and also mileage too. seems unethical. anyway, I hope they figured it out since they were last at my house. To this very day, I still never heard from them again. they never called to update me or anything... I genuinely hope they work with a consultant to figure out these issues. And I hope the lady who tried to power wash my house is okay. Good luck with everything.
I hired Handiqueers for a large furniture assembly project. They came and spent 4 days assembling items in an apartment building I was staging for my job. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They were reliable, detail-oriented, accommodating with schedule, and generally a delight to work with. I would highly recommend them for any job!
Great communication, easy to work with, and I was very happy with the quality of the job. Thank you, Handiqueers!
