Handy and Some is Sean Mindes's remodeling company, run out of Atkinson, New Hampshire, right on the Massachusetts line — and a good share of its portfolio sits on the other side of it, in Andover, Haverhill, Methuen and Newburyport. Kitchens and baths are the centre of the business, with additions, decks, basements and siding around them. The written history is genuinely deep for a small outfit: 29 accounts across five separate platforms, going back to 2017. Houzz puts it at 4.9 from 17, Thumbtack at 4.8 from 35, Angi and HomeAdvisor at 4.7 from 30 — and those last two are the same 30 shown twice, not 60. What stands out reading through them is not the star average but the crew: the same foremen and workers get named by different customers years apart, which is a harder thing to fake than a five-star rating. The part worth pausing on is how criticism gets handled. The lowest-rated account on file alleges the job was not finished as contracted and that the owner turned sarcastic when deficiencies were raised — and the company's public reply to it is openly mocking, at one point volunteering where the reviewer lives. A second review with no customer text at all drew a long public rebuttal accusing that customer of bad behaviour. Both replies are the company's own words, published on its own listings. Read them before you sign; they tell you more about a disagreement six months into a kitchen than any star rating will. The licence picture needs checking rather than trusting. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for the company under one number and calls it, in three different places on the same page, expired, inactive and cancelled — while also labelling that same number two different licence types. Houzz separately lists a Massachusetts construction supervisor number, which is a normal second credential rather than a contradiction. None of it was confirmed against the state registry here. The right call for a homeowner who wants one contractor coordinating subs on a kitchen, bath or addition, and who values a crew that stays put. Before booking, confirm both licence numbers directly with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, get the scope and the punch-list in writing, and ask how change orders and defects are handled once the deposit is down.

I hired Handy & Some for a bathroom remodel. I received a quote quickly from Sean and he communicated very promptly through the entire process. His price was reasonable and he adjusted it fairly for additions and subtractions that we made. His subcontractors were reliable and everyone was pleasant and considerate while working in the house. Larry, who acted as foreman on the job, was great to work with and always going the extra mile to make sure that everything was done to my satisfaction. Job was completed on schedule and with high quality! Hire them if you have a chance! [Job cost stated on the page: $8,400]

The team was very professional and went above and beyond by doing extra repairs not originally requested. My deck project was over a roof covered with rubber to prevent leaks in the garage. The team carefully made sure the rubber roofing was not damaged in any way. Well done. I would hire this firm for any project. [Deck or Porch. Job cost stated on the page: $12,300]

We had a 32 year old deck with good underlying structure but badly in need of resurfacing. We wanted to go with a low maintenance Trex product and White pvc railing. Handy and some quote was competive and work on deck was superlative. Finished Deck looked better than original deck ever did with white pvc lattice surround and framing. Team was good to deal with and commucation was excellent. Project got town building permit which gave us more confidence, with Handy and Some handling the process. I have a vacation home in Maine with 2 decks and would have no hesitation hiring them again if they would travel that far and the price was competitive.

We have worked with a number of contractors over the years. Sean and his team were outstanding and we would highly recommend them. They were always very professional, communicative, reliable, clear about costs, very patient answering questions and attentive to finding the best solutions.
