Harvey Remodeling is a Shrewsbury design-build firm that, by its own account, traces back to 1925 and has been passed down through generations from founder Francis Harvey — and its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is still held under that founding name, Francis Harvey Remodeling LLC, and is active. For years the company built a genuinely decorated reputation: Houzz lists a stack of industry awards from the mid-2010s, including a 2017 Gold National Contractor of the Year award for an addition and a 2016 Silver award for a kitchen, plus GuildMaster and Best of Houzz service recognitions. That reputation shows up in the written record too, but almost all of it is dated: twelve of the sixteen reviews on file were written in 2017 and 2018. In that period, clients described full additions and whole-home renovations completed to spec and on schedule — a 2017 review credited the crew with a kitchen renovation, a living-room addition and a patio overhang finished around a deadline, and named designer Julie White for pulling together color and texture across projects. A lead carpenter and design consultant were separately singled out in a 2017 master-bath project for daily communication and a clean job site. One 2018 review broke from that pattern, describing ordering problems and a bathroom fixture the project manager swapped without checking first, calling the fix slow and the price not worth it. The written record then goes quiet for years. What has come in more recently is thinner and more mixed. A 2024 review praised president Neil Harvey directly, calling him knowledgeable about remodeling and experienced with insurance claims, and said he delivered exactly what the homeowner wanted. A 2023 review said a kitchen project ran on time and on budget. But the two most recent Google reviews — one from 2024, one from May 2026 — are both one star: one describes workers parked on both sides of a street, blocking a fire truck's path, and rude when asked to move; the other calls a kitchen and first-floor renovation slow with poor workmanship. One thing worth flagging directly: Houzz's listing for the company includes a self-reported "BBB Accredited A+" badge, but the Better Business Bureau's own profile for Harvey Remodeling shows it as not accredited and not currently rated. That is worth asking about. Beyond the reviews, BuildZoom's permit records put the company in the 92nd percentile of Massachusetts contractors by volume — 434 permitted projects on file, though only two of those in the last two years, consistent with a business whose visible activity has slowed since its award-winning stretch a decade ago. For a homeowner drawn in by the design pedigree and the older project photos, it is worth asking what has changed operationally in the years since, who is running jobs day to day now, and getting a firm, specific account of both recent projects before signing.
