Four hundred and thirty-four permitted projects — that is what BuildZoom has on file for Harvey Remodeling, and it is the quickest way to understand this Shrewsbury firm. It works design-build: designers and carpenters under one contract, one point of contact from the first sketch to the last punch-list item. The company says it was founded in the 1920s by Francis Harvey and handed down through generations; its Better Business Bureau file puts it at 101 years, with Neil Harvey as president and the LLC itself filed in 2011. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held at the registry under the name Francis Harvey Remodeling LLC. What people hire them for is steady: kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and the occasional whole-house rebuild. A homeowner writing in 2023 said their kitchen came in on time and on budget; a 2024 Google reviewer credited Neil with knowing both the remodeling and the insurance-claim side of a job. The longer, more detailed write-ups are older — the twelve reviews shown on Houzz all date to 2017 and 2018, and that is largely where the 4.8-from-43 average comes from. Google, closer to the present, sits at 4.1 across 20 ratings. Those two numbers pull apart for a reason. In May 2026 a customer who had a kitchen and first floor done rated them one star and called the crew slow. In 2024 another one-star was about job-site conduct rather than the build itself: crew vehicles parked on both sides of the street with no room for a fire truck, and a brush-off when asked to move. Back in 2018 a Houzz reviewer described ordering problems and a project manager who swapped a bathroom fixture without consulting them. Two things are worth raising before you call. The Houzz profile lists "BBB Accredited with A+ Rating" among the company's awards, while the BBB's own page says the business is not accredited and carries no rating at all. And BuildZoom, which counts 434 permits all-time, shows only two in the past two years — a slower recent pace than the history suggests. This is the outfit for a full kitchen, bath or addition where you want design and construction on one contract rather than juggling trades. Ask for two or three jobs finished in the last twelve months and call those homeowners; get the schedule, the change-order process and the fixture-selection sign-off in writing; and confirm who your day-to-day contact will be once the crew arrives.
“Starting with less glamorous but more basic improvements serves a dual benefit, said Neil Harvey, president of Shrewsbury-based Harvey Remodeling.”
This is The worst company to go with I had a kitchen and first floor done. They’re slow and very bad workers. I don’t know what else to say. Do not go with Francis Shea hobby they’re terrible.
This company has some of the rudest people working for them. They park on both sides of the street, opposite each other, leaving no room for a fire truck or emergency vehicle to get through. If you are going through in a large vehicle, they tell you you have plenty of room and expect you to risk your license getting through there and are very rude when you ask them to move their vehicle. I would not hire this company for those reasons alone! I also tried calling the company to nicely convey this to them but they don't answer their phone. So, I was forced to put it on the website.
Amazing experience with Harvey Remodeling! The first thing I look for in a contractor is someone that I can trust and who I am comfortable with in our home. Neil exceeded all our expectations. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable about remodeling, he also has vast experience dealing with insurance claims. I would recommend Neil to anyone who is looking for a trustworthy expert. He came to our home and carefully took pictures and notes and also understood what we were looking for and most importantly was able to deliver!
This process was great from design to completion. Everything was on time and on budget. We are very happy with our new kitchen!
This was our first experience going through a major renovation...kitchen, foyer/entry, master bath, laundry. Due to our schedules we needed this project to be well-organized and streamlined. We interviewed six different companies. From the very beginning everyone at Harvey made us feel confident and comfortable about the process. Their communication, follow-up and customer service is excellent. We felt like we were working partners from the very beginning. All of our projects were completed timely and within budget. We highly recommend them.
