Hegarty Plumbing is a Quincy shop that's become a go-to for a striking number of long-term customers — several reviewers describe using owner Gerry Hegarty and his team for 20 to 25-plus years across multiple properties, both their own and family members'. The Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ and lists plumbing and HVAC as its services. The written record, 39 reviews spanning 2019 through 2026, is overwhelmingly positive and heavy on real detail: reviewers describe boilers and oil tanks from the 1960s and '80s swapped for new Burnham units with gas lines mapped out and re-run, central air and mini-split systems installed with Mass Save rebate paperwork handled for the customer, and a 2023 review recounting three of four water heaters replaced starting at 7:45 a.m. with careful attention to fitting shorter, wider tanks into the old footprint. Emergency calls come up often — Gerry answering a spigot leak the night before a family vacation, or a water heater fixed on Christmas Eve — and a 2024 Reddit thread has someone thanking him for being willing to take on an oil-to-gas steam boiler conversion at all, calling the work quick and easy. Two things are worth knowing before calling. First, two reviews stand out against the otherwise five-star record: in a 2019 review, a customer hired through an insurance claim said the owner showed up late, spent only a few minutes assessing the job, and the same-day work they'd taken time off for didn't happen as promised; separately, a 2022 review describes two unanswered attempts to reach the company at all. Second, the licensing picture on BuildZoom is a mixed bag rather than a clean one: it lists a Massachusetts plumbing business license and two sheet metal licenses as active (one BuildZoom itself verified as of November 2025), alongside a plumber license it has not independently verified, and separately reports that a Pipefitter Master license tied to the business shows as inactive, citing a state record that it was at one point cancelled. None of that is enough to outweigh two decades-plus of consistent, detailed, repeat-customer praise — but it's worth confirming which license and technician will actually be on your job, and getting a clear same-day-vs-estimate-only expectation in writing before the visit.
“I used Hegarty to convert my oil burning steam boiler to natural gas.”
Hegarty Plumbing (Quincy, MA) removed 2 boilers (from 1960s and 1980s) and 2 oil tanks, then replaced the boilers with new Burnham units (one a gas-fired steam boiler, the other a combi-boiler). Gerry Hegarty is a great guy; very knowledgeable, extremely responsive. Mikey and his assistant did a fantastic job; they mapped out the new installation gas lines like architects, then meticulously completed the installations. They even removed old gas pipe lines and installed new thermostat wiring and a new water shutoff. Cleanup was thorough and the units look amazing and work very well. Joan issued invoices timely and their pricing is very fair. I’d highly recommend Hegarty Plumbing and their team of expert plumbers!!
We had an excellent experience with Hegarty Plumbing for the installation of central air and two mini split systems in our home. From start to finish, the work was handled professionally and with great attention to detail. Eldi and Jace were the technicians on site, and they were absolutely fantastic. They were knowledgeable, efficient, and clearly took pride in their work. They explained the process, kept the work area clean, and made sure everything was done right. The installation went smoothly, and the system works perfectly. It’s not often you find a company that combines quality workmanship with great customer service, but Hegarty Plumbing delivered on both. We would absolutely use them again for future work. Highly recommended!
Hegarty Plumbing was recommended to us by a friend. Both we and our neighbor have used them on a few occasions in the last few months, and the service has been great every time. One time it was an emergency and they acted immediately, sent a crew promptly, and quickly addressed the issue. I would highly recommend them!
I have been using Hegarty Plumbing & Heating for almost 25 years on several houses, replacing boilers and fixing plumbing issues. I appreciate Gerry's prompt response and the quality of work. With the heating furnace down, every day counts
Great service! My heater has been working better than ever since they serviced it a few months ago.
