Three reviews. That is everything customers have put in public about Hemlock Contracting, and all three landed inside a two-month window across late 2022 and early 2023, every one of them five stars.
What the company is, is easier to pin down than what people say about it. It trades as Hemlock Decks & Porches out of 24 Everard St in Worcester, and by its own account owner Teddy Labonte started it with his father in November 2012 as a second-generation family business, working general contracting, then exterior remodeling, before settling on decks, porches and outdoor living. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active on the state registry, BBB has accredited it since April 2023 and grades it A+, and the company says it holds two of the top composite-decking credentials, TrexPro Platinum Installer and TimberTech Gold PRO Contractor.
The work you can actually look at sits on Houzz: eight galleries including a covered porch addition in Milford, a deck and railing in Auburn and a back deck in Grafton, with typical jobs priced between $8,000 and $20,000. The three HomeAdvisor reviews, from December 2022 and January 2023, attach to $11,000 and $20,000 jobs and keep circling the same two words, professional and timely; one wrote that the crew did everything asked and obliged a couple of extra requests. A September 2023 comment on a contractor listing site credited Teddy with suggestions on a new deck — one voice, not a pattern.
Two things to sort out before signing. The tenure story does not line up: the website dates the business to November 2012 and HomeAdvisor claims 12 years of experience, while BBB records the business as started January 1, 2021 and incorporated three weeks after that. Ask which entity holds the contract and how long its registration has run. HomeAdvisor's page also says free estimates are available in one place and says the opposite in its FAQ, so pin down what a design consultation costs.
A reasonable call for a Worcester-area homeowner who wants a composite deck or a screened porch from a manufacturer-certified installer. Ask for recent references and addresses you can drive past: what is published is small and three years old.
