Hodge City Plumbing says on its website that it has delivered plumbing throughout Northampton, MA, and surrounding areas since 1973, and describes itself as locally owned and family-operated. Its BBB grade is A+. A 2021 customer said Sean installed a water heater, cleaned the furnace, checked the sump pump and repaired the thermostat in about an hour and a half. A 2024 customer who had a hot water heater replaced said the company refused to provide the heater's cost, worked out that labor came to $300 per hour, and said a unit with a six-year warranty was installed without being told a twelve-year version existed for a few hundred dollars more. A 2023 customer said the water heater was installed and works, but objected to the condition Ron and a young helper left the house, basement and bulkhead door in, and to how Ron spoke to them when he called back days later. A 2021 customer said Hodge City told them a combi hot water heater/boiler could not be repaired and quoted $7,830.00 to replace it, and that another company got the old system running in 40 minutes. A 2018 customer said two calls for help with serious plumbing issues went unanswered.
My hot water heater needed to be replaced, and Hodge City gave me a price. I made the mistake of assuming they’d given me a fair one. After the work was done, I found the cost of the heater (the company refused to provide it), and I figured out I’d paid $300 per hour for labor. They also installed a heater with a six-year warranty without first informing me there’s a version with a twelve-year warranty for a few hundred dollars more. I would have gladly paid the difference. Now I’ll probably be stuck with the expense of replacing the unit much sooner than was necessary.
First - the hot water heater that I needed WAS installed and works. My 1-star rating is on the after install customer service, lack of professionalism, absence of responsibility or accountability for the condition that Ron left my house/basement/bulkhead door. I was/am beyond disappointed and aghast. I would NOT recommend this company simply due to the manner that I was treated and the unfathomable condition that this person and his young helper left my home in as well as the way Ron spoke to me when he called back multiple days after the install and my verbal complaints requesting a call back to discuss. Videos and pictures confirm. Perhaps, it was simply a Bad day for them...? On the upside, it's great to have hot water again!
I was so impressed by their speedy, professional and competent service! Sean installed a water heater, cleaned my furnace, checked my sump pump and repaired my thermostat in something like an hour and a half. I still have to wait to see how everything works, but I'm guessing it will all be fine. After some recent dreadful plumbing experiences my hope is renewed!
We had an issue with our combi hot water heater/boiler. We had Hodge City come down to see if they could repair it, and they said it couldn't be done. They gave us an estimate of $7,830.00 to replace the system. Another company came down and got the old system running in 40 minutes. We just saved ourselves $7700+. The unit Hodge City was going to use I found in line for $3k. I asked their repair guy what he would suggest that would fit the existing footprint for our unit and he chose the Bosch. Where was that other $5k going? I know everyone is busy and its tough to find help these days, and thus, my advice is to beware of who you hire. Some folks will take advantage in these times. No thanks.
This company, Hodge City, after two thoughtful calls for help, in am and late pm, was unresponsive. My reach outs were ignored after talking to answering service or their office, not sure. I have serious plumbing issues and no one got back to me after waiting around and seeing if they could come by to help. Even a confirmation call back. Crickets. Now we are stuck to find someone else tomorrow. Maybe they went out of business.?!
