Very few home-services businesses in eastern Massachusetts have a paper trail this deep — and the last six months alone brought 31 reviews without a single negative one among them.
Horizon Chimney Services works out of 31 Hayward Street in Franklin and does the full chimney trade: sweeping and camera inspections, relining, caps and dampers, firebox and masonry repairs, waterproofing, and wood, pellet and gas stove installation. Its BBB profile carries an A+ grade and lists the company as CSIA certified.
What reviewers describe over and over is a company that shows up fast and sends people who explain things. Customers name their technicians — Wayne, Josh, Jason, Brayden, Mike — which is usually the mark of a business whose crews stay put. In June 2026 a homeowner said the office texted a photo of the technician when he was on his way. Another that month wrote that Horizon fixed a gas fireplace a different company had said would have to be replaced, saving them thousands. In March 2026 a customer described the crew laying drop cloths so snow and rock salt would not come into the house, then snaking a camera up the flue and finding a crack in the smoke chamber. Same-day and next-day appointments come up repeatedly, including during the busy pre-winter stretch.
The work runs past routine sweeping. Reviewers in early 2026 described a chimney liner installed on a frigid day, a wood stove insert put in end-to-end, a pellet stove insert walked through option by option, and a water-heater vent pipe reconfigured to fix a backdraft that other trades had not solved.
Where to press: price and scope. A February 2026 reviewer gave one star, saying they were quoted $2,500 for a whole new gas fireplace system and paid a $600 deposit, and that a technician then fixed the actual fault — wiring — in about ten minutes, told them the call cost $500, and still recommended replacing the system. In December 2025 another one-star reviewer said they were charged $370 for what they described as seventeen minutes of vacuuming the fireplace without the chimney inspection and cleaning they expected, plus an attempt to sell more services. Even a happy March 2026 customer called the estimate expensive, if fair and warranted. And in a 2023 Reddit thread a Waltham homeowner who had Horizon do a damper, flue liner and firebox rebuild recommended them for the non-visible parts, but said they would use someone more specialized in indoor finish masonry for the hearth, mantle and stone facade.
The right call for chimney cleaning, inspection, relining or a stove install anywhere between Franklin and Boston. Get the scope and the price in writing before any deposit, ask exactly what the visit includes, and get a second opinion before agreeing to replace a whole gas system.
