Inner Boston Masonry & Construction is a Dorchester outfit that homeowners call when a foundation wall is cracking, a chimney is pulling away from the house, or a retaining wall needs to come down and go back up right. Across 30 Google reviews averaging 5 stars, one thing repeats: owner Mark Dunn shows up, explains what's actually wrong, and stays involved while the crew works through it. Reviews run from March 2025 through June 2026 and are dense with real jobs rather than one-line praise. Customers describe an 8-foot, 110-foot retaining wall rebuild with a metal fence remounted on top, a leaking fieldstone foundation wall re-mortared and stuccoed over two and a half days, six new footings and piers added to stabilize a settled front porch, and a French drain tied into gutter downspouts to fix standing water in a yard. Chimney work shows up just as often — full rebuilds, a blown-off chimney topper replaced promptly, and a re-bricking job paired with new front brick stairs. What people mention most, beyond the finished work, is the process: photos sent during the job, daily visits, problems explained before they're fixed, and cleanup at the end of each day rather than just at the finish. A few reviews are shorter and more generic — "great job," "nice to deal with" — but even those consistently name Mark by name. On paper, the company holds an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, and Angi lists it as an Approved Pro with a Super Service Award and a 5.0 rating from 41 reviews. Its own website describes masonry, chimney, foundation, roofing, and siding work centered on the Boston area. For a cracked foundation, a leaning chimney, or a retaining wall project, this is a company with a specific, photographed track record to point to. Its website also lists roofing and siding among its offerings — worth confirming scope directly, since the reviews on file center on masonry, chimney, and foundation work.
5/5 Stars – Highly Professional and Reliable! I had an excellent experience working with this masonry team. They recently repaired several cracked sections on our exterior walls by repointing them, and they applied a thick, protective parging/waterproofing layer to the foundation walls under our front and back porches to mitigate future risk from humidity and lack of sun. From start to finish, the crew was incredibly professional, efficient, and respectful of the property. They stuck exactly to the committed schedule and completed the work on time without cutting any corners. Best of all, there were absolutely no surprises or hidden costs—just honest, high-quality craftsmanship. The finished job looks fantastic, and I have total peace of mind knowing the structure is well-protected. If you are looking for a skilled, reliable mason who delivers exactly what they promise, I highly recommend them. Job well done!
When I needed to find a contractor to fix my chimney which was pulling away from my house at the top, I contacted numerous contractors for their assessment and cost estimate. Some never responded, others recommended what sounded to me like ineffective band-aid solutions, and a couple gave me reasonable advice and estimates. I chose Inner Boston Masonry because Mark seemed so knowledgeable and trustworthy. I’m very glad I did. He and his team got to work right away, came on time every day until the work was completed, kept me well informed every step of the way and did an excellent job. I would highly recommend this company and they will be my “chimney people” forever.
I can't say enough good things about Mark Dunn and the team at Inner Boston Masonry & Construction. We hired them to repair 8-foot-high, 110-foot-long retaining wall, along with the 5-foot-high metal fence mounted on top of it and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. The owner, Mark Dunn, provided a competitive quote, clearly explained the repair plan, and communicated with us throughout the project. He visited the site daily, shared progress photos, and quickly addressed any unexpected issues with practical solutions. The workmanship was outstanding. The retaining wall is now structurally sound and looks fantastic, and the fence was carefully repaired, cleaned, and painted. Mark and his crew were professional, hardworking, respectful, and kept the work area clean every day. It's rare to find a contractor who combines quality craftsmanship, reliability, honesty, and excellent customer service. We are extremely happy with the results and would hire Inner Boston Masonry & Construction again without hesitation. Highly recommended.
I highly recommend Inner Boston Masonry & Construction. Mark and his team did an excellent job repairing our retaining wall, side walkway, and resurfacing the concrete underneath our deck. Mark was responsive, professional, and took the time to explain the projects and answer our questions. He was also very kind and easy to work with throughout the process. I would gladly work with him and his team again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for masonry work!
Mark and his crew were very professional, walked us through every detail, sent photos of work in progress and cleaned up the area nicely! Price was competitive, would highly recommend this hard working young man and his team.
