James G. Grant Co., Inc. runs a seven-acre construction-and-demolition transfer station at 28 Wolcott St in the Readville section of Hyde Park, Boston. The company describes itself as a four-generation, family-owned full-service recycling center with more than 60 years in the business, handling C&D debris drop-offs, scrap iron and metal recycling, roll-off dumpster rentals and small-to-medium demolition. The people who use it most are contractors and homeowners hauling their own debris, and the praise is consistent about the operation itself: fast in-and-out trips, a clean yard, and staff who walk first-timers through the process. A 2026 reviewer who works as an electrician said he had brought scrap there for about four years and had always been treated right, naming it the best place in Massachusetts for scrap. A 2025 reviewer described arriving overwhelmed and being guided through what to do. Two separate people on the open web mention going back for years — one for 15 years. The complaints cluster in two places. Several reviewers, in 2025 and again in 2022, describe the machine operator directing the yard as arrogant or disrespectful, one of them a customer who said he had dumped 30 loads the month before; two others in 2022 and 2023 said the staff answering the phone were rude. The second cluster is price: reviewers from 2021 through 2026 cite a rising dump minimum — $100, then $225, then about $250 per ton — and a 2022 reviewer laid out the increase in detail, saying small contractors could no longer use the yard. Notably, one 2022 reviewer who complained about the $225 minimum still left five stars and said he did not fault the company for the rate. One 2022 dumpster customer reported that the delivery hit a retaining wall and left a divot in the driveway, and that the promised repair had not happened four months later. If you are hauling C&D debris or scrap yourself, this is a well-established, quick drop-off with a long local history. Call ahead for the current minimum and per-ton rate, which reviewers say is not posted on the website, and confirm the damage policy in writing before a dumpster drop.
“I bring my stuff to James Grant in Hyde Park.”
“Been bringing debris to grants for 15 years”
As an electrician it’s hard sometimes finding honest scrap yards. Since I’ve been bringing my scrap here for the past 4 years or so they have always treated me right. Don’t waste your time going to Everett or somewhere else, see Henry at Grant, best place in Mass.
Best price around $250 per ton to dump construction debris and never a wait fast in and out friendly and professional
$50 to dump a toilet...
The machine operator was highly arrogant and disrespectful. I would never recommend to ever go back.
