JFM Construction is a Hyannis-based carpentry and remodeling contractor run by owner James McMorrow, known to customers as Jim. The company holds active, state-verified Massachusetts Construction Supervisor and Home Improvement Contractor licenses, and its written review history stretches back to 2011, giving it one of the longer track records among Cape Cod carpentry outfits. Homeowners who hired JFM consistently praise Jim's hands-on involvement and the quality of structural and finish carpentry work — deck and porch construction, stair and railing installs, basement beam reinforcement, and roof completions all draw specific, repeated praise across the years. In a 2017 review, a homeowner described Jim personally acknowledging and correcting his own roof-measurement mistake at no extra charge, and other reviewers from 2016 and 2013 describe him showing up as promised and communicating clearly. Before booking, it's worth asking for a firm, itemized quote up front. A recurring theme across several reviews — a 2019 job that grew from a $23,460 quote to over $46,000, a 2021 roof job where a $900 quote became $1,500, and a 2012 job with an unapproved $400 add-on — is that scope changes and extra charges weren't always communicated clearly before being billed. That same 2019 review also notes the project failed building inspection twice before passing, and a 2015 review describes a floor-refinishing job that initially came out the wrong color before a different crew redid it to the homeowner's satisfaction. JFM is a reasonable call for Cape Cod homeowners who want an owner-operator carpenter for decks, stairs, and structural repairs — provided they get a detailed written estimate before work begins and follow up in writing if the scope or price changes mid-project.
I wish that I had asked for a quote on the project first so that I could see the breakdown. The project was twice as much as I had budgeted for. Initially I was told the hourly rate of the person providing the estimate and that it would be 1 day of work. I most likely would still have had the project done by this company but I would have planned differently.
NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE
Jc carpentry communicated what they were going to do they showed up on time and did a great job
Very nice gang. Would have them back for other work. They were even careful about disturbing my garden.
Jim was good to work with and was very professional. Nate did our stairs and they look beautiful.
