JJJ Painting & Construction describes itself on Angi as a family run company that takes on remodeling and renovation work. Its Angi profile shows 4.7 stars from 85 ratings. A 2014 customer said the company turned a dark paneled living room and a sun porch into a new bedroom suite, removing a set of sliding glass doors and quite a few windows before installing a new header beam. That 2014 customer said they also installed a new hardwood floor, new windows and doors. A 2016 customer said the contractor worked his way around the house making repairs before the painters started, and that the added repairs brought a $400 up-charge over the original estimate. A 2014 customer said they asked for an OK each time they found more rot, and that there was a substantial amount of rot on the fascia boards behind the gutters. A 2014 homeowner said Jason was able to start the day after the contract was signed and replaced rotted shingles for $400 on a $4,900 quote. A 2015 customer said Jay supplied a detailed estimate within a couple of days and that his crew cleaned up each day. A 2017 customer said the paint was already peeling in some areas and that multiple emails and a voicemail to the company went unanswered. A 2015 customer said the owners left for vacation the week most of the work was to be done and never showed up for a scheduled appointment to look over the job. A 2016 customer said paint ended up on bed spreads, curtains and the floor. A 2014 customer said the contract read "trim" when they meant every exterior painted surface, and the issue was worked out with some increase to cover some older windows.
Everyone we dealt with was very nice. The painters arrived on time and were hard workers. The quote was to power wash, prime (with a heavy duty Mad Dog primer) and apply two coats of paint, however, I believe only one coat of paint was applied. I brought this up with the owner and the workers insist they put on two coats of paint, but some of the original paint showed through in spots. This means they would have had to miss the same spots each time they applied a coat of paint. The trim and siding they replaced was done well. This work was done in September of 2015 and I was assured the paint would last at least a few years. They told me the Mad Dog primer would take care of any problem areas. Unfortunately, the paint is already peeling in some areas. I sent multiple emails to the company over the past two weeks and left a voice mail. I have yet to be contacted by anyone. This is very disappointing.
Avoid this company at all costs!
Great job and done in one day
There was more construction work that needed to be done before painting than originally thought. The contractor worked his way around the house making the necessary repairs, starting in the front and ending in the back yard. This way the painters could start on the front of the house. All construction work was top-notch and definitelyy should have been done years ago. The extent of the repairs was a little more than what was included in the original estimate, and resulted in a $400 up-charge, but once we saw the finished product, it was well worth the extra money. There is something to be said for peace of mind. The house has never looked this good.
Mr. Cardilli subcontracts his work out and oversaw the construction. He helped us figure out what to present to the insurance company so that the majority of the work done was eventually covered by our home owner's policy. He was in constant contact throughout the project. He helped us develop a plan that allowed us to remain in the house during construction except for the floor refinishing. This was an important factor for us. He remained in constant contact with us about the process, what we needed to do and by when. He checked in on the job daily either by phone or site. The construction crew he hired was excellent. They were very thorough in their daily clean up of the house including little conveniences like plugging in alarm clocks and setting them to setting up our beds in other rooms during construction. The painting crew was good, but work needed to be checked for thorough paint coverage. We found paint on bed spreads, curtains, and floor. They did not clean up as well as the carpenters. The flooring crew completed their job within the given time frame and the work was excellent. All work was completed within the expected time line. This was the first time we have ever hired a contractor to do work for us. I will add a couple of things we learned in the process. If you want / need an itemized list of all work and materials used, put that expectation in the contract. Additionally request that any work beyond the agreed upon work is approved (cost) prior to starting the needed work. When the additional work is done, check the work and time required for labor to be sure it is accurate. Overall this experience was a good one. The subcontractors were polite and pleasant to our family. Mr. Cardilli was attentive and responsive to all our emails and calls.
