JKA Construction is a Woburn wood-frame builder that fabricates its own panelized wall systems and supplies framing, siding and roofing for new commercial and residential construction and remodeling work. Project credit lists put it on jobs as the rough framing subcontractor. The company says it was founded in 2013 and is minority-owned, and the state backs the second half of that: its Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office minority business enterprise certification is active on the registry. The labor history is where a homeowner should slow down. A law firm's January 2022 write-up says JKA Construction would also pay punitive damages on account of the willful nature of the violations, and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly that same month headlined a federal court ordering a Massachusetts contractor to pay $438,000 in unpaid overtime. The U.S. Department of Labor's own pages say the Woburn company and four named owners must also pay $64,750 in civil money penalties. In November 2020, Patch reported the department obtaining a temporary restraining order against two construction contractors and a company representative to stop alleged threats and retaliation against an employee; the Labor Department page describing that order names JKA Construction. An OSHA inspection of the company at a Revere Beach Boulevard site records five initial violations reduced to two, with the penalty cut from $87,301 to $22,739. On the customer side, its Google listing carries a 5-star average from four ratings.
