JM Carpentry is a small, owner-operated carpentry business that lists a Boston address on River Street in Hyde Park and takes work across eastern Massachusetts. Its Thumbtack listing describes a single-employee shop run by Jeferson Martins, hired 28 times through that platform and showing 178 project images. The work it advertises sits squarely in finish carpentry: interior and exterior trim installation and repair, cabinet installation and built-ins. Around that core it also lists furniture assembly, handyman work and general contracting on Thumbtack, flooring, painting and tile on HomeAdvisor, and deck or porch repair on Angi. Customer feedback is positive but narrow. Thumbtack shows 4.9 out of 5 across 16 ratings, 94% of them five-star with a single three-star band, and five of those customers left readable accounts between mid-2024 and May 2025. Those accounts read as genuine rather than manufactured: they vary in length and voice, spell the owner's first name several different ways, and each describes a different piece of work rather than repeating one template. Two things are worth clearing up before booking. The first is how long the business has actually been trading, because the three directories it appears on state four years, eighteen years and twenty-eight years, and those figures cannot all describe the same company. The second is which entity you are hiring and where it works from: the same name appears under a Boston address on HomeAdvisor, under Framingham on Angi and under Marlborough on Thumbtack, so it is worth confirming directly that the business you speak to is the one with the reviews. Angi and HomeAdvisor both carry the listing as brand new with no reviews at all, which means the whole star rating rests on a single platform. The one screening on file is a Thumbtack background check completed in June 2024 in the owner's name. That is a platform identity check, not a trade credential, so ask separately about registration and insurance and confirm anything you are told against the state's own records. For small and mid-sized finish carpentry — trim, cabinets, doors, built-ins and furniture work — this reads as a capable one-person shop with a clean but thin history. The sensible next steps are to pin down the trading entity and its base town, ask for references from jobs completed in the past year, and get the scope and price in writing before work starts.

I recently hired JM to install my new kitchen cabinets, and I am so happy with the results. From start to finish, JM was professional, responsive, and clearly knew exactly what he was doing. He came fully prepared with all the tools needed and handled every detail with precision and care. What really impressed me was his craftsmanship and efficiency. The cabinets turned out beautifully and completely transformed the space. JM was also very communicative throughout the process, making it a smooth and stress-free experience. If you're looking for a skilled and reliable carpenter, I highly recommend JM! Jefferson responded quickly to my request to replace an old door with a steel door. He assessed the job and meet me at Hone Depot to help me find the right items needed. Despite us not speaking the same language, we were able to communicate via Google translation. He was efficient and provided photos when job was completed. He also seal any openings in the door areas. I would definitely recommend him and wouldn't mind working with him again. Details: Exterior door, like a front or patio door • 1 door • Standard • Metal • Yes, the new door replaces an existing door • No, I'll purchase the door myself • Install new trim around the door • Home (Door Installation, Hired on Thumbtack)
