Kavanagh Remodeling is a Needham, Massachusetts design-build and general contracting company run by Peter Kavanagh, who reviewers name directly across every account on file. The website states over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, while Angi's business profile for the company states 24 years of experience -- the two self-reported figures don't quite agree. The company holds an active Massachusetts Construction Supervisor license (CS-055564), though two separate Home Improvement Contractor licenses tied to the same owner are listed inactive. Kavanagh Remodeling carries a perfect 5.0-star rating across 5 published Angi reviews, though every one of them is dated between 2006 and 2013 -- nothing has been posted in over a decade. The written record itself is detailed and consistently glowing: in a 2012 review, a homeowner described a $23,800 remodel of two bathrooms where Peter visited the home multiple times before starting, incorporated the family's design suggestions, brought in outside cleaning help before a holiday at his own expense, and delivered a finished project the family was thoroughly pleased with. In a 2011 review, a client whose $75,300 renovation included cellar work called the process honest and free of surprises, saying the finished space far exceeded expectations. Another homeowner, in a 2013 review, called Peter 'the best contractor we have ever had,' praising his daily on-site supervision, easy communication, and fair pricing -- even noting he came out on a Sunday to inspect storm damage at no prompting. Reviewers across the board single out the same traits: fair and competitive pricing, hands-on daily supervision by Peter himself, honest cost estimates with no surprises, and a crew described as polite, neat, and respectful of the home. The company's own materials describe a full range of services -- additions, kitchens, bathrooms, roofing, custom cabinetry, and design work -- along with custom home builds and tear-down rebuilds, serving clients from the Greater Boston area out to Nantucket. The one real gap worth asking about directly is recency: with no reviews on file since 2013, there's no way to confirm from this record alone whether the same level of quality has held up in recent years. Anyone considering Kavanagh Remodeling for a substantial project -- an addition, a full bathroom or kitchen remodel, or a custom build -- should ask for references from more recent work alongside confirming current licensing and insurance.

He is the best contractor we have ever had. He supervises his workers every day he is on site. He is very easy to work with. If you make changes it's not a big deal. His pricing is fair. He even came out on a Sunday to inspect the work after a large storm.
We found Peter Kavanagh's name through Angie's list and the Big Deal that was offered to remodel one 5' x 8' bathroom. Our downstairs bath was a 1960's bathroom that really needed work. Our upstairs bathroom was newer, but needed updating, so we decided to remodel both bathrooms. Peter was really helpful and before we agreed to anything he visited our home at least 4 times and right from the start it was a positive experience. Each time he had more suggestions, most of which we incorporated into the designs. Peter supplied all of the labor and construction materials. We purchased the tile, plumbing fixtures, vanities, vanity tops and glass tub and shower enclosures. We decided to go with a glass screen for the tub instead of a shower curtain or sliding glass doors. Peter made some good suggestions for local vendors to deal with. As part of the deal there was an allowance for fixtures that we put toward our own purchases. We went beyond the basic Big Deal, but used that as our starting point. Our house is on a slab so the rough plumbing replacement involved trenching and then repairing the slab. The people who Peter hired to work on the bathrooms were competent, pleasant, professional and respectful of our home. As you can imagine, there was a good amount of dust, but Peter and his crew made every effort to minimize the impact it had on our daily living. Peter always gave us a heads-up as to what should be expected for the coming week, and then refined things as the week went along. If a change needed to be done, Peter was there to discuss it with us. The upstairs bathroom was completed just before Thanksgiving and the downstairs bathroom had just been demolished. Peter was concerned that we were having company for Thanksgiving, so he brought in a cleaning service to clean the whole house at his expense. This was certainly something he did not have to do. The project was completed in January 2012 and we are entirely pleased with the job that Peter did and we would highly recommend him.
We were very happy with both the work in 2006 and the work completed in October, 2010. In both cases, I was very pleased with the work of Peter, his team and his subs. Several times, during the work most recently done, Peter had a cleaning team come in and clean the the whole house. Peter's quotations were competitive and I considered the final pricing fair. I felt that Peter was honest and I was fairly treated. I would not hesitate to recommend Peter.
Peter made our custom renovation an overall pleasant experience. He was always up front and honest when it came to cost and accurate in his preliminary estimate. No surprises. We expected our cellar to look good and he far exceeded our expectations.
Stayed in budget with me. We had to move out of the house for the remodel and he would call me every morning, to let me know the plan for the day. He had great ideas, and was very responsive. All of the crew members were polite and neat. The house looks amazing. When he takes on a job, he treats it as his own house and puts a lot of thought into it and does not rush things. He is very dependable. I would recommend him to anyone.
