Less than three years after building their house, a family hit a major structural problem with their stairs. They interviewed five contractors. In a January 2026 review they wrote that while the others rushed to drastic and expensive conclusions, KC took the time to work out what was actually wrong. KC Construction is Kai Imes and Cody Merritt's Plymouth company — founded in 2017, both owners still lead carpenters — doing custom home building and full renovations across the South Shore and Cape Cod: additions, decks, porches, bathrooms, kitchens, basements and framing. The range is wide, and both names turn up in most of the reviews. A dilapidated pantry and laundry room converted in July 2025 into a bathroom and a new laundry and mud room. Ceilings vaulted in February 2024 on a job the homeowner calls anything but small, made to feel easy. A full bathroom put into a basement in January 2024, with pump placement and plumbing worked out first. A whole house in Sagamore Beach demolished and rebuilt, described in a November 2023 review. And a large 2023 remodel taking in three full baths gutted, close to 3,000 square feet of new hardwood, new sliders, a relocated laundry room, a new back entry with a custom mudroom and a patio. Exterior work is just as common: a roof, siding, exterior trim and a deck in one summer; a completely rotted bay window replaced in April 2024; an exterior stairway built up to a second floor in September 2023; decks, a shed and windows. A July 2025 customer watched Joel, Bobby and Johnny build a deck through days above 90 degrees. Two things come up over and over. Estimates arrive fast and come in low — a January 2026 customer had a quote from the estimating team almost immediately, and an October 2024 basement-finishing customer wrote they were the most reasonably priced contractors she found. And the communication is daily: a March 2026 customer described being contacted every day through the construction and helped through each decision as it arrived. They handle the systems side too. A September 2024 basement finish also took in replacing an aged heating system, adding a heat pump and hardscaping outside. An April 2026 customer who asked for a commercial build-out quote and ultimately went another way still wrote about how understanding and professional Cody had been about it. KC suits a South Shore or Cape project with real structure in it — an addition, a basement conversion, a gut remodel, a rebuild — where you want the owners themselves swinging hammers and answering the phone. Both are lead carpenters, so ask where you sit in their schedule before committing to a start date.
