Liberty Builders Custom Carpentry works out of North Reading, built around custom carpentry and full-scope renovation work, with James Maccario as its sole employee and president; the company has been in business about 13 years. Its most detailed account on record is a 2016 Houzz review from a homeowner who hired the crew to restore a late-1800s Victorian, praising the team's professionalism and ability to work through the odd configurations of an older house. Beyond that single written account, the platform rating figures on Google and Houzz (5 stars apiece) each come from only one rating. Two things worth checking before booking: Massachusetts' registry shows the company's home improvement contractor registration, once verified active, has since expired, and the Better Business Bureau — where the firm isn't accredited — gives it a B- for not responding to a complaint on file. Houzz separately lists LEED and NARI credentials and a contractor's supervisor license for the business, though those come from the directory listing rather than a state check. With so little written record beyond one older account, ask directly about current licensing status and get a firm scope and timeline in writing before signing on for a restoration-scale project.
