In November 2022 a homeowner wrote that Kevin Lord took a $12,000 deposit for a $30,000 roof and skylight job, never started the work, and eventually blocked their calls. A BuildZoom reviewer posting the same day told a similar story: hired in May 2022, contract signed, deposit paid, a dumpster delivered — and no work. Lord Exteriors is Kevin Paul Lord, working out of East Falmouth on roofs, siding and gutters. The Massachusetts registry lists his home improvement contractor registration, #186512, as revoked. The Better Business Bureau grades the business B-, which it attributes to a failure to respond to the one complaint on file. Other customers describe work they were happy with. A March 2022 customer described a roof installation done with attention to detail by someone who answered quickly. In April 2022 another said roof repairs went well enough that they hired him again to clean the gutters and fit a leaf guard, and that he and his crew pointed out problem areas and offered reasonable solutions. Back in May 2018, a BuildZoom reviewer who had posted a complaint earlier wrote a retraction: he came back, added six gable vents and shingled more, and their chimneys and roof looked right afterwards. A November 2023 reviewer called him a super craftsman and said they recommended him to their real estate customers. The deposit stories keep recurring, across platforms and years. A November 2021 reviewer said the shingles were stripped off their house after a $5,000 deposit and he then disappeared for months, leaving them to take legal action. In March 2024 a customer said a $2,000 deposit for siding work in Falmouth was cashed and the work never followed. In January 2025 a BuildZoom reviewer told others to check his recent reviews and his contract number, writing that a hard lesson the previous summer had cost them $6,700. Three reviewers writing between November and December 2024 were unhappy with finished work rather than a no-show: uneven edges and missing shingles, siding damaged during the job, trampled flowerbeds, and nails and trash left in the yard. One said the company would not take responsibility for the damage. The platforms disagree sharply — Google shows 4.5 stars from 59 ratings, BuildZoom 2.0 from 11. Before any conversation about price, look up HIC #186512 on the state's register yourself and see where it stands today. If you go ahead regardless, pay against completed work rather than in advance, and get the scope, the start date and the cleanup terms in writing.
