This May, Ryan and his team installed a bluestone walkway and landing in place of a brick walkway. We also had Belgian blocks added along the driveway. The biggest problem is that the landing to my front door is noticeably off-center. I brought it up to Ryan as soon as the first stones were laid (see photo) and he explained to me that it couldn’t be centered. His reasoning was that there wouldn’t be an equal overhang on either side of the landing. In hindsight, I wish I didn’t accept this answer. Nothing was done with the overhang on either side and I am now stuck with an off-center landing. I’ve spoken with other contractors who said the overhang wasn’t a problem at all and it should have been centered on the door frame. Additionally, the Belgian blocks were added before the walkway was completed which resulted in several blocks being cut into partial pieces to make everything fit (see photos). This felt like poor planning. Last, the project came in several thousand dollars more than quoted (after adjusting for add ons after the initial quote, such as deducting the addition of a mailbox post) such as misquoting an irregular pattern for the blue stone which was discussed and agreed upon 6 months before the project began (see photo). I subtly tried to negotiate on price at the end but there was no willingness to do so. Overall, I am disappointed with the finished product, particularly given the cost. My advice would be to carefully review the layout and details with M&R before work begins and make sure you are completely comfortable with the proposed approach before allowing the work to proceed.

Ryan and his team were excellent. The project came out better than we could have hoped, it looks beautiful. We are extremely happy with our decision to go with them and would highly recommend.

M&R has done quite a bit of work for us over the past several years including plantings, tree removal, spring and fall cleanups, etc. Most recently, they got us through the heavy February snow storms by very timely and expert plowing of our driveway. They are reliable and reasonably priced. They are also flexible about helping with unusual projects. For example, they once helped me remove the pool cover. I hope to work with them for many years.
