Eighty Google ratings, a 5.0 average, and one word that shows up again and again: clean. M & W Hardwood Floor Service sands, stains, and refinishes wood floors around Salem, and what customers write about almost as often as the finish is how little mess was left behind — plastic over cabinets, dust kept out of other rooms, tools tidied at the end of the day. The shop works out of 3 Summit Ave in Salem. BBB has it on file since 2017 as a two-person flooring contractor, while the company's own site claims a dozen years around Greater Salem and, in another spot, more than fifteen — worth pinning down if that matters to you. The owner writes about the business in the first person and runs a small crew; reviewers overwhelmingly name Jose. The work described runs from straightforward refinishing to jobs with real complications: old floors brought back, blemishes and dark spots sanded out, new stairs, floors matched to existing wood. In June 2026 a homeowner wrote that Jose's team sanded and refinished their floors on time and left the place spotless, even though an earlier contractor had left a mess behind for them. In May, another described dark spots removed until the floors looked new. That thread — inherited problems fixed without drama — runs through the longer history too, which stretches back to 2022 across four sources. There is one sour note in the record, from 2023: a homeowner who booked an estimate said Jose missed the appointment twice, seemed unbothered, and never apologized. It's a single complaint, it's several years old, and it's about the sales call rather than the craftsmanship — but scheduling is the one place this outfit has been faulted, so hold them to a firm date for the walkthrough. One oddity worth knowing: a 2025 review praising Jose refers to the company as Amendola Flooring in Salem, which may mean the same crew has operated under more than one name. BBB does not rate the business and it isn't accredited, which reflects a thin BBB file rather than a mark against it. If you have wood floors that need refinishing — especially old ones, or a job where dust control matters because you're living in the house — this is a straightforward call. Get the estimate appointment confirmed, and ask what the finish schedule and cure time will be before they start.

Jose and his team did a wonderful job sanding and refinishing my floors! They were on-time, professional, and left the place spotless even though earlier contractors had left a mess for them. Working with Jose and M&W Floors was great; I highly recommend them.

José and his team were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. They quoted us a reasonable price, aligned their schedule fit our tight timeline, and stayed in communication with us to make helpful suggestions about the work we were having done and update us on progress. We’re first time homebuyers and have yet to experience a major project like this so it put us at ease to have a local company step in and do such a great job. They even left behind smooth-sided particle board for us to use when reinstalling our appliances to make sure we didn’t scratch the new finish.

Excellent experience with them. They were organized, on time, and very clean and tidy once they were completed you would not have known they were there, except for having beautiful floors!!!!
