Old floors brought back are what people hire Ray's Wood Floors for: a condo in an 1824 building, a first period colonial on the National Register, 100-year-old boards, a floor from 1949. The Salem company says on its site that it started in 1975 out of a blue Dodge work van; founder Ray Richard worked alongside his youngest son Josh for 20 years, and Josh now runs the family business. It lists installation, sanding, refinishing, staining, patching and historic restoration across the North Shore, Essex County and Greater Boston. Customers deal with Josh, and Google shows 4.9 stars from 73 ratings. A May 2026 customer said Josh worked through the unevenness of their 1824 building's floors and coordinated around their schedule; a July 2026 review describes deep scratches sanded out, with Josh on time and reasonably priced. In a March 2026 review, a customer credited him with advice on water- versus oil-based finish coats. Several customers had new wood matched to old. In a January 2026 review, a customer with a large job said the new floor had to match the existing one and Josh cut and placed each piece himself. A July 2024 review describes salvaging 100-plus-year-old boards on a full renovation, matching new wood where needed, and a May 2025 customer said he brought back Brazilian cherry floors after 20-plus years of neglect and matched the new wood floors to the old. Another May 2025 review describes a weeklong job taking dark walnut floors to a light natural color, finished on time and within the estimate. A small job was welcome too: a January 2025 customer with flood damage in one guest room noted that a lot of contractors won't take small jobs like that, but Josh did. A December 2024 review and an October 2025 review both describe him fitting a whole-house refinish in before a move-in date. In an October 2023 review of a National Register colonial, the customer said the refinished wide pine kitchen floor made the room feel like a new kitchen.
