M.F. Goodwin Co. Inc. is a Danvers-based remodeler built around kitchens and bathrooms, and the thing customers write about is the owner himself — Mike Goodwin is on site, runs the job, and is the person homeowners describe dealing with from the first meeting to the last punch-list item. The company says it has been doing residential renovation since 1990, and its work is concentrated on the North Shore: its own project albums are in Melrose, Hamilton, North Andover, Essex, Reading and Beverly, and it lists a service area running across Peabody, Beverly, Danvers, Marblehead, Andover and their neighbours. Alongside kitchens and baths it takes on additions, basements, whole-home remodels and restoration work on old houses. The track record is consistently strong and unusually consistent: 5.0 across ten reviews on Houzz, running from 2013 through the end of 2025, with no dissenting rating anywhere in that span. What makes that set credible rather than boilerplate is how it reads — the reviews vary widely in length, name the owner and his carpenter by name across different years, and each describes a different job. Repeat customers recur, several describing multiple projects in the same house over time. Two things are worth knowing before you call. This is a small operation, so the owner's direct involvement that reviewers praise is also the constraint on how much work it can carry at once, and much of the written record is now several years old. And the construction supervisor number CSL 081670 shown on its Houzz profile is the company's own listing rather than something confirmed with the state, as is the Angie's List award it cites. If you want a kitchen or bathroom renovation on the North Shore run by the person who will actually be in your house, this is a well-matched company. Ask for references from the past year, and check the supervisor licence and any home improvement contractor registration directly with Massachusetts before you sign.

Plain and simple … hire Mike, of MF Goodwin. He is everything and more most people are looking for in a contractor. If you are considering any home renovation – he is your guy! We've purchased 16 homes over the years and renovated most, working with many contractors and Mike is among the very best if not the best. He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, great communicator, strong at follow through and has an extremely deep and talented network of contractors in other skilled areas in case you need them. He is a 10 in a max rating of 5. We purchased a 322 year old house and met with a few contractors to discuss renovating the kitchen, bathroom(s), screen room and a very long laundry list of other repairs/renovations that are ever present in an old home. We knew from our initial meeting that Mike was the guy. During that meeting Mike was thoughtful and didn't just agree to our ideas to get the job. In fact, after that meeting, passed on our job because he was concerned that our plans for the kitchen renovation would not result in a finished product that we would ultimately be happy with. Needless to say, he responded well to our pleading and many months later, we couldn't be happier with the end result of the renovations. Mike is on site and has a talented carpenter, Bruno, who works with him. Mike also referred talented plumbers, electricians, tile contractors, painters and masons – who were all also polite, professional and talented. Mike oversaw everything and all work met and or exceeded our expectations. I could easily go on . . . But I think my point is clear – you won't be disappointed should you hire Mike to work on your home and on top of everything else – he is a really nice guy with an enjoyable sense of humor who is pleasant to have around!

I've been meaning to write this review for awhile. We had a great experience with Mike at MF Goodwin, and would not hesitate to hire again or recommend his services. From start to finish, our kitchen renovation went so smoothly. He was extremely fair with pricing, helped guide us with the process, and he was very responsive and professional. Mike also helped us convert a small room in our house to a nursery. He has truly improved our home so much, and we hope to work with him again in the future.

Mike and his crew have done two bathrooms and one kitchen in my house. They are superb to work with, I'd never work with anyone else. Great craftsmanship, tidy and speedy. Could not recommend any one more than him!

Michael Goodwin and his crew are the best! Michael is VERY easy going and took ALL the stress out of a typically stressful kitchen/first floor renovation. Michael coordinated all aspects of the project for us. He made it simple with one stop shopping by doing all the homework and helping us select the best Anderson doors/windows and hardwood flooring for the project. Michael had everything well-orchestrated. His team was very efficient and adhered to the proposed timeline. He was patient when our choices of tile, granite and appliances were on back order and delayed the project on our end. He was open to, and welcomed, the many unplanned extras that my husband and I added along the way. This was a first time renovation for us and we had no idea what to expect. Michael took away the fear of the unknown and made himself available anytime we wanted to discuss the project. He was great at communicating which aspects of the job were going to be done when and what we needed to do ahead of time in preparation. Michael and his team were so helpful offering advice (when asked) and collaborating with us daily to ensure everything was done to our specifications. It was clear that their goal was to make us happy and to turn our vision into reality. The quality of their workmanship was top notch and in many cases, exceeded our expectations. We absolutely love our new kitchen/first floor! We were so blessed to have found such a great Contractor. We can't speak highly enough of what a great experience we had working with Michael and his crew. We look forward to working with Michael and his team again on future renovation projects!

We wouldn't use anyone else. Period. And I can confidently say we have very high standards! Mike (the owner) is a genuinely good guy. He really cares about his team's work and making the customer completely happy. Mike has done multiple projects for us including all 3 of our bathrooms, our kitchen cabinetry, and the complete renovation of our living/family room as well as our basement. I remember one time I had a specific vision for how the special tile we ordered would be placed around our fireplace which created a challenge for making the cornering work. On his own time, he researched and thought through the logistics to come back with a plan to make it work! Now, we just need to think up a new project to have him back ;-)
