A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.

A 3,600-square-foot house, eight skylights, one day. In a 2023 review a customer logged the hours: the crew was on the roof at 6:55 a.m., gone by 5:20 p.m., and had swept up behind itself. Other customers writing around then describe the same shape of job — shingles stripped and replaced inside a day, for the number written into the contract. M. Gendron & Son runs out of Salem, New Hampshire with a Boston address on Neptune Road, and its permit history on BuildZoom lines up with what people describe: 223 permitted projects, 15 of them in the last three years, most of them strip-and-reroof with siding and skylight work alongside. The people who turn up have names in the reviews — Mike or Michael on the estimate, Al running a multi-family rolled-roofing repair after storm water got into a tenant's apartment in 2023, and Manny, whom one customer that year said he had used for eight years of construction work. Price and response time carry most of the praise. A January 2024 reviewer got a quote at half a competitor's number, with a large skylight, the permit and the dumpster included. After a tree came down on a house in 2023, a homeowner called several roofers and said MGS was the only one that called back — and came out that same day. Another customer that year had shingles and skylights replaced and asked for the roof to be built solar-ready; the crew planned around it. Three things to sort out first. The written accounts are dated — they run from 2017 to early 2024 — so ask for a recent local job you can go look at. The 5.0 average shown on Angi and HomeAdvisor covers one set of 84 ratings, not two: the HomeAdvisor page reproduces the Angi profile, review bodies and all, and the star breakdown printed beneath it (93 percent five-star, 2 percent four) does not average to the 5.0 above it. And BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #171254, as active with an issue date of March 2026 that falls after BuildZoom's own verification of it — that is a directory listing rather than a state registry check, so confirm the registration with Massachusetts yourself. The OSHA and lead-safe certifications on the HomeAdvisor page are the company's own description of itself. For a straightforward strip-and-reroof, particularly one with skylights or a tight schedule in it, this is a crew with a long permit record and customers who paid what they were quoted. Get a recent reference and the registration confirmed with the state before you sign anything.
Mike from MGS responded immediately to my request from Angi for a roofing contractor. He came for an estimate the following day. He gave us a price that was half of another competitor - plus replacing a large skylight. The price included the permit and dumpster. He explained everything thoroughly and answered all our questions - and we didn't have to sit through a two-hour sales pitch. All materials were top quality and installed above standard practice. This was in December and we were concerned about the weather and short daylight. Mike assured us they should have the job done in a day, barring some unexpected repairs to the roof. Their crew came a week later. Crew leader Rick was fantastic. They stripped two layers of ashphalt shingles off the house, breezeway and garage, replaced the skylight, and were done in about seven hours. This included replacing the lead flashing around the chimney and building a cricket above it to divert the water. Amazing! They spent about another hour thouroughly cleaning up all the debris around the property, including scouring for nails with a large rolling magnet. The dumpster was picked up two days later. Except for the great looking new roof, the property looks like they were never here. We had three days of rain starting a few hours after they left, and the house is completely dry. This was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had dealing with a contractor. From start to finish, everyone has been friendly, respectful and professional. Mike was in constant contact with us throughout the process and responded immediately if I had a question. I highly recommend MGS for any roofing job. [Job cost stated on the page: $16,500]
MGS just replaced my roof shingles, and I must say I am greatly impressed. They did it when they said they would, took as long as they said they would (one day), and cost exactly what we had agreed upon in the contract. They were efficient and skilled. Very hard workers! No glitches at all, and that in itself is unusual in the contracting world. I highly, highly recommend them! More than happy. They showed up on time worked hard and finished early.
We were very pleased with the entire process. The explanation and estimation of the project were fair and on time. The start of the project was excellent within two weeks of meeting to completion. Very professional, fulfilled all expectations, courteous, informative of product and install, excellent clean-up. Within 24 hours of starting work, all signs of their being there were gone. I Would recommend MGS and use them again.
We recently had an incident requiring extensive roof repair due to a large tree falling on our house. We called several roofing companies and contractors and MGS was the only company to return our call. Mike came out on the same day we spoke to him and gave us an estimate and a time frame for the work to be done. We called him back the next day and hired MGS to do the job. Not only did they come out much sooner than anticipated but the work was done quickly and efficiently. Everything was done and cleaned up by early afternoon and looks fantastic! We are very pleased and highly recommend MGS Construction for any project, large or small that you may need to have done.
