A 3,600-square-foot house, several roof planes, eight skylights — crew in at 6:55am, gone by 5:20pm. That 2023 account is the shape of nearly every job people describe with M Gendron & Son: strip it, reshingle it, swap the skylights, be off the property by dark. The company works out of Salem, New Hampshire with a Boston address on Neptune Road, and BuildZoom names Manuel Gendron and Mark Mordini as owners. Its permit trail is the deepest thing on file — 223 permitted projects, fifteen of them in the last three years, at a typical permit around $17,400, mostly strip-and-reroof with siding and skylights alongside. Customers writing in 2023 name the same people over and over. Mike — Michael Mannick on the sales side — came out the day after the call, and on the same day for a homeowner who had a tree come through the roof, then walked through the materials list and the process line by line. Al took on a multi-family where rolled roofing had been installed badly enough that a wind-driven storm ran water into a tenant's apartment. Reviewers that year repeated two things: the contract price was the price they paid, and the crew cleaned up and left nothing behind. Price is why several of them chose the company. A homeowner writing in January 2024 said the quote came in at half a competitor's with the permit, the dumpster and a large skylight replacement included. Another in 2023 called four roofers and said MGS was the only one that handled the enquiry properly. Two things to weigh. The written record is dated: it runs from 2017 to January 2024, so those accounts describe how the company worked then rather than how it works today. And the credentials on its directory pages are its own claims — OSHA and LEAD Safe certification, a Simonton preferred-installer badge, an A+ BBB rating and "fully licensed and insured" are all self-declared there, while the Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration BuildZoom lists, #171254, is the directory's report and is printed with an issue date that falls after BuildZoom's own verification of it. For a straightforward strip-and-reroof, with skylights handled in the same visit, this is a shop that has done that job hundreds of times. Ask for the current Massachusetts registration number and check it with Consumer Affairs yourself, and ask for two or three roofs they finished this year.

MGS just replaced my roof shingles, and I must say I am greatly impressed. They did it when they said they would, took as long as they said they would (one day), and cost exactly what we had agreed upon in the contract. They were efficient and skilled. Very hard workers! No glitches at all, and that in itself is unusual in the contracting world. I highly, highly recommend them! Mike from MGS responded immediately to my request from Angi for a roofing contractor. He came for an estimate the following day. He gave us a price that was half of another competitor - plus replacing a large skylight. The price included the permit and dumpster. He explained everything thoroughly and answered all our questions - and we didn't have to sit through a two-hour sales pitch. All materials were top quality and installed above standard practice. This was in December and we were concerned about the weather and short daylight. Mike assured us they should have the job done in a day, barring some unexpected repairs to the roof. Their crew came a week later. Crew leader Rick was fantastic. They stripped two layers of ashphalt shingles off the house, breezeway and garage, replaced the skylight, and were done in about seven hours. This included replacing the lead flashing around the chimney and building a cricket above it to divert the water. Amazing! They spent about another hour thouroughly cleaning up all the debris around the property, including scouring for nails with a large rolling magnet. The dumpster was picked up two days later. Except for the great looking new roof, the property looks like they were never here. We had three days of rain starting a few hours after they left, and the house is completely dry. This was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had dealing with a contractor. From start to finish, everyone has been friendly, respectful and professional. Mike was in constant contact with us throughout the process and responded immediately if I had a question. I highly recommend MGS for any roofing job. [Job cost stated on the page: $16,500]

MGS was wonderful to work with! Michael was very professional, personable and responsive. The roof went on in one day, they remained within their estimate and it looks beautiful.

What does a roof replacement cost in Greater Boston?
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from M Gendron & Son Construction LLC. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.
Estimated range
$9,000 – $18,600
Typical roofing project around $13,800
