MAB Woodworking is an Auburn-area carpentry shop built around custom woodwork: cabinets, pergolas, decks, French doors, and smaller made-to-order pieces. Angi and HomeAdvisor each describe more than 30 years of experience, and both profiles identify Michael Butler with the business. The customer history is unusually specific. Recent Angi reviews describe a pergola, a deck, French-door installation, and custom cabinet work; customers repeatedly mention careful craftsmanship, attractive finished work, and on-time delivery. Other reviews cover custom cutting boards and serving trays, including a one-week turnaround for a board and holiday-gift orders. There is one clear project-management caution. In a 2025 cabinet review, a customer said the cabinets were well made but that drawings and as-built conditions were not checked closely enough, creating problems with the process. Confirm the drawings, measurements, site conditions, and change-order process before a larger cabinet or remodeling job. MAB is a sensible candidate for homeowners seeking custom carpentry and built-to-fit woodwork, as well as smaller crafted pieces. The profiles list a self-reported Massachusetts trade license number 219156, expiring April 3, 2028; verify the credential and scope for your project before signing.

Did an extremely high-quality, professional job. Came up with creative solutions to problems that worked wonderfully. Everything was on time and on budget. Strongly recommend!
MAB Woodworking responded to our online request for kitchen cabinet remodeling to accommodate a new current model refrigerator. Our 45 year old Amana refrigerator died suddenly & no modern refrigerator could fit into the existing built-in space. Ugh! Michael Butler, MAB founder, visited our home first to scope out a vision for moving the cabinets to allow room for a new KitcenAid 36” counter depth refrigerator. Michael sensed our urgency, immediately scheduled the repair, giving us a firm date for refrigerator install & appeared two days later completing the work on time & on budget. Michael is a wood-building artist who constructed an incredibly beautiful and sturdy pergola for us. It was a pleasure meeting and working with him. We would gladly hire Michael for future projects.
The cabinets themselves were very well made, but the process and other aspects of the experience were less than great. Michael didn't pay much attention to the detailed drawings or project parameters provided by the designer, and didn't verify as-built conditions. As a result one of the cabinets was incorrectly sized and some floating shelves I provided were incorrectly installed. Because they hadn’t been included in the original quote, I had to pay an additional fee. Additionally ,communication and adherence to promised schedule and deadlines was inconsistent. Michael is a nice guy and I can tell he’s capable of doing some very good work, but I wouldn’t hire him again based on this experience.
The deck turned out beautiful. Michael Butler is a superb woodworker, craftsman, and artist. His impressive skill and expertise made our deck both beautiful and sturdy.
