Mike Malkin builds decks. That's the thread running through nearly every one of the 20 Google ratings behind Malkin & Daughters' 5.0 — decks, the porches and stairs that lead to them, and doors and windows as the steady second trade. The Danvers company describes itself as family-run: Mike Malkin as owner-carpenter doing the installs, Alessandra Malkin handling marketing and project management. It lists a service area running from Danvers, Peabody and Beverly out to Salem, Newburyport, Boston and Waltham. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. What homeowners describe is as much the process as the finished deck. A customer writing in January 2026 about a deck project said Mike was clear about the job, the time frame and the costs from the start, and offered guidance and choices along the way. In a 2023 review, a homeowner who had spoken with more than a dozen deck builders said he was responsive and honest about materials and design, and worked within their budget. A 2024 reviewer who called himself fussy pointed at the products and fasteners used and the site kept clean through construction; another that spring mentioned tarps laid in the driveway before any wood got cut. Decks aren't the whole business. Reviews from 2024 describe replacement windows, a sliding patio door, a door and frame between house and garage, and one bathroom renovation; a 2022 customer had him hang multiple interior doors over the two years after buying the house. One 2024 review covers three sets of rebuilt stairs at a camp in Maine, so the Massachusetts towns the company lists aren't a hard boundary — ask if your job sits outside them. A couple of things are worth weighing. The praise is uniform — all seventeen written reviews are five stars — and it sits almost entirely on Google; the local listing pages quoting him are repeating those same reviews rather than adding independent voices. It also skews backward: eleven of the seventeen were posted in 2024 or earlier, with the newest from January 2026. For a deck, a porch, or a set of exterior doors on the North Shore, this is a small owner-run shop with a consistent history and a live state registration. Ask him to put the schedule and the material choices in writing — the reviewers who were happiest are the ones who had that conversation upfront.

Mike gave me a helping hand when I was in need great guy and great company highly recommend!!!
He’s done two projects for us: a front stairs/small porch, and a larger back deck.

Very personable, easy to work with, communication is 100%, which isn’t common to find, and I have recommended him many times since. Those I know who have taken the recommendation have also been quite happy.

Will gladly have him back for the next project too, when the time comes.
Mike is a true professional and master at his craft of deck building! His attention to detail and customer service is the best in the industry. Always a pleasure to do business with!
I’ve been following Mike on Instagram for a while now, always enjoyed watching his decks come together, one day I jokingly but seriously inquired about a project he was doing, Then got into how I wanted to do my deck over. Mike asked me to send some rough measurements to him, along with some pictures. Mike said the job was worth while to come from Massachusetts, to New York, and give an estimate. We booked a date and him and his wife showed up on time. Seeing his truck pull up was pretty cool. Mike went over every single detail, raised some concerns and gave me an estimate. When I decided to go with Malkin And Daughters we came up with a start date. Mike had all his material delivered from Massachusetts to New York on time. As soon as Mike started working, I knew this guy was the real deal. He is extremely neat, efficient, and knowledgeable. He completed my job in 13 days. Any and all obstacles was addressed. When he completed my deck I told him that I feel like this deck doesn’t even belong on my house it was so nice. Mike worked hard everyday, and answered all my questions that I had. He came prepared and ready to work and that’s what he did. If your looking for a no nonsense real deal deck builder who isn’t like all the contractors your used to, go with Malkin And Daughters, me and my family are extremely happy with them and the work they delivered. I can’t recommend them enough. You won’t be disappointed if you go with Malkin and Daughters.
