Marco Polo Construction is the kind of contractor whose reviews you read twice. Marco Breda's crew does gut renovations, additions and kitchen-and-bath remodels around Boston, and most customers describe a large in-house team that moves fast. But a July 2025 Houzz reviewer wrote that the company did not follow the architect's plans, used unlicensed plumbers and electricians, damaged their home, and that a court awarded them $400,000 they say they have not been paid. That is one customer's account, not a verified record, and it sits beside a 4.9 average on the company's Angi listing. The praise is detailed. In June 2025, a homeowner who had interviewed ten contractors for a gut renovation and second-story addition said MP was the most communicative, flexible and competitively priced, with a big in-house team. In May 2025, a seller facing a $15,000 attic quote from another company said an MP contractor looked at it and solved it for far less. A 2019 customer had a hundred-year-old house finished in three months, with reliable plumbing and electric and a woodworker who reused the original trim and sill stock; a 2018 Back Bay condo got a full kitchen, bath, floors and paint; a 2017 Houzz reviewer had two rooms combined into a master suite with a walk-in closet and a large bath. A 2021 customer with only one bathroom said the remodel was done at "lightning speed" to keep them out of it as briefly as possible. There are two complaints besides the lawsuit account. A 2016 Angi reviewer said nearly every measurement on a deck was wrong, the concrete came in different grades and colors, and the deck was not level. Angi and HomeAdvisor share one listing at 4.9 from 34 ratings under the name Marco Polo Home Builder in Stoneham; Houzz shows 4.2 from 5 in Brighton and lists a construction supervisor licence, CS-105634, and a lead-safe deleading claim, none of it checked against the state registry here. If you are considering them for an addition or a whole-house job, ask directly about the 2025 lawsuit, get the names and licence numbers of the plumber and electrician who will pull permits, and tie payments to inspections passed. The speed and pricing customers describe are real; so is the account of what happened when the plans were not followed.
Marco Polo should get a zero rating! Marco Breda cannot be trusted! They did not follow the architect’s plans and used unlicensed plumbers and electricians. They made a lot of damage to our home. We sued and the court awarded us $400,000. We haven’t seen a penny from Marco!
We recently completed a gut reno and second story addition. After engaging 10 different contractors, MP was the most communicative, interested, flexible and competitively priced. MP has a large in-house team of experts that work efficiently and adapt to the home owner’s needs and preferences. The employees worked 6 days a week and took great pride in their work. They were personally invested in our project and wanted to make it the home of our dreams. The team includes an amazing designer, Nataly, who helped with selecting finishes. The onsite foreman, Adriano, demonstrated expertise and kindness. Seichelle and Marco did an excellent job with operations, ordering materials and problem-solving. We have been back in our home for 10 months. Anytime I have an issue, Seichelle and the team have addressed it. They have gone above and beyond what is expected. We could not be more pleased with our project. We strongly recommend MP for your next project!
I want to sincerely thank and highly recommend Marco Polo home Builder! While I was selling my house, the buyer’s inspector believed the attic needed repairs. One company quoted me a staggering $15,000. Thankfully, I had a general contractor from MP home Builder come take a look. He spent a lot of time carefully inspecting the attic and determined that it actually met all the requirements — there was only a small issue that needed to be fixed. They only charged $600! From $15,000 to $600 — that’s not just a price difference, it’s a clear example of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
In addition to the kitchen, they also remodeled our bathroom. Marco was sensitive to the fact that we only had one bathroom and made sure we were out the facilities for the minimum time possible. Our bathroom remodel was completed with lightning speed which we really appreciated! The kitchen remodel was also speedy. They worked with our requirements for smaller than usual appliances, finding, and even building, cabinets to fit our small kitchen space. Everyone who worked on our projects were very professional, wearing masks and keeping windows open even in the winter months. We're very happy with our new kitchen and bathroom!
The entire job from start to finish took three months... not bad for a hundred year old house. Plumbing and electric work was very reliable. They also have a very talented woodworker who was able to reuse much of the original wood to repair a window sill, trim, and baseboard. Whenever we had any concerns they were addressed promptly and to our satisfaction. They also had a beautiful selection of cabinets and granite counter tops to choose from. We would absolutely use them again. Very happy with the outcome.
