Melville Electric is a Dedham electrician's shop run by a tradesman named Chris, and the reviews describe him handling both routine service calls and bigger panel work. Angi and HomeAdvisor both put the rating at 4.8 stars from 49 reviews. The specific jobs reviewers describe run from small to substantial: a 2024 review recounts upgrading a home's electrical service from a 100-amp panel to a 200-amp one, with permits pulled, the inspector coordinated, and the new panel passing inspection on the first try. Around the same period, other reviews describe a Level 2 EV charger installed, recessed lighting put in, and general troubleshooting — outlets added, switches swapped, a fluorescent fixture fixed the same day it was called in. Speed is a recurring thread in the 2022 and 2023 reviews: several describe Chris showing up same-day or the day after being contacted. Two accounts are worth weighing against that pattern. A 2023 review states plainly that a job was not up to code. Separately, a 2022 review describes a more specific dispute: after the electrician filed a permit for the work, he reportedly stopped responding once it was time for the inspection, leaving the customer unable to reach him for weeks. Before booking, it's worth asking directly about permitting and inspection follow-through on any job that needs one, given that 2022 account, and getting a clear scope in writing given the separate 2023 code complaint. For straightforward electrical work — panel upgrades, EV chargers, lighting, and troubleshooting — most of what customers describe here is specific and positive, but the inspection-related complaints are worth asking about upfront.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Melville Electric. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
Standard receptacle swaps — a new dedicated circuit is a bigger job ($350–$750).
Flush mounts, pendants, chandeliers — hung on existing boxes.

“Recently finished and passed inspection on this 5 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom new build located in Hydepark.”
Chris did a number of jobs on two units for me. He was professional, accommodating and easy to work with. I had lights added, switches changed out, and added new outlets. His quote was spot on when the tally came at the end. I will be calling him with all my future electrical needs and recommending him to my friends and family.
Chris upgraded our service from a 100 amp panel to a 200 amp panel. Chris was responsive and made us feel like we were his top priority. Chris obtained all the necessary permits and coordinated with the inspector. His work passed inspection with no issues and the new panel looks/works great. Most importantly, Chris gave us a thorough estimate that was in line or better than the others we had received. The final cost was exactly on budget. So glad we went with Chris. We will definitely hire him again for some additional work we are planning.
Job not up to code.
Very flexible timing, made an impossible project work!
Chris has worked on a variety of electrical issues for us as we convert our place to all electric. His work is outstanding and his prices are fair. He explains well what he is doing. Chris also has contacts with an excellent young plumber whom we also have hired.
